Thinking about a sager..

Okay, so I have been looking at sager and asus laptops for the past few days and I still can't really make a decision on what I want to do.

Right now Dell is running a special where you get the Dell Streak for $99 when you buy a system over $699. Naturally, I looked at eBay to see what they are going for brand new and unlocked (which is how it comes from Dell). I found out I can get about $350 for it, if not a little bit more.

With their current offerings, I can scoop up an XPS15 with an i5-2410, 1920x1080 HD display, GT 540M 2GB Optimus, 4GB DDR3 (Which I will probably replace with 8GB later on), and a 500GB 7200RPM drive (I will replace this with an SSD for sure).

All that + the Streak comes to a total of $1,078.00 + tax = $1166 - 350 (smartphone sale) = $816 w/ free shipping.

Alternatively if I go w/ Sager I can get the 5160 with the lowest end i7 (i7-2630QM) + 1080P screen, and no other upgrades for $838 (I don't think they charge tax?).. not sure about shipping if you can get that free or not but yeah..

What do you guys think?

A.) There will never be a reason to put 8 gigs of RAM in a laptop. Besides a mobile workstation.

B.) Dell computers (Desktops and Laptops) tend to die in about 2-3yrs on the dot. Gl with your warranty.

and that is an easy fix, if it's just the inverter.

Go with the quad core sager laptop, better build quality and parts for about the same price.

i would of had to replace the whole panel since the whole thing was enclosed hunted for a few weeks and deemed i might as well buy a new one and hook the old laptop up to a monitor, so now its basically a extra desktop.

The Streak is a great deal at $99, but I'd rather get the Sager if you're not actually interested in owning a Streak. Makes more sense to me to buy a better spec laptop for less money and less messing about.

My only concern is with the trackpad, I have used some trackpads that are really funky, and then I have used a mac which has a great one IMO. I haven't been able to find any reviews on how the trackpad on the sager performs tho, anyone care to comment?

The trackpad is fine as long as you dont get an 8130, which is coated in rubber.
Also the dell streak will get cheaper over time. All the deal sites have posted about the $99 dell streak deal, and most people are using it as discount, aka they buy the laptop and streak, then ebay the streak for 200 or so, giving them an extra $100 off. Watch in 2-3 weeks they will be all over ebay.

Hmm, I suppose. The only factor for me would be that Dell have a pretty good track record for making decent laptops. I suppose if you're extremely sure about the build quality of the Dell it wont hurt to go with that. But bare in mind that you can't be sure that the Streak will sell at that price though.
