80C Temps safe for Folding@home on i7 2600K?

Thread Starter
My i7 2600K overclocked at 4.9GHz with 1.4v loads in the high 70s and low 80s when running F@H bigadv. My ambients are 27C. Is this temperature safe to be running at? I don't want to kill my chip or degrade it. If it's not safe then I guess I'll lower my clocks. Thanks!

I would lower it. Running 4.9ghz vs 4.5ghz wouldn't be much of a difference in PPD but would mean a great deal in the chances of damaging your processor.

Agreed! Turn that down or get some better cooling damn! I wouldn't run that hot even during stability testing.

Not sure about the Sandy's but I have 2 - i7 920's that have run at 80C+ in winter and will hit the 90C+ in summer for over 2 years and are still folding 24/7 on the same setting they have had since I started folding with them.

Personal preference really, I'd never let my CPU run that hot, but if it doesn't bother you, why not? Lol.

Agreed with the rest, under 100% load i don't get above 63c on 3 of my cores, the 1st core never gets above 57c.

Too dame hot, thats my laptop temperature on prime with 2.0 Oc. Get a better cooling or optimize ur air flow. I believed 85c is the thermal throttle on these chip
