TIM Question - Page 4

I don't know if a C3's max temp is 72C, I hear the actual max temp for most AMD chips is like 65C, some people suggest staying under 62C to be safe at all costs. Most of the time though, on basic tasks and playing even strenuous games you that would yield you near 100% on all 4 cores it's nowhere near as hot as doing Prime95 or IBT or other benchmarks to push the CPU to the limit.

I can play BC2 and be at 95%+ on all 4 cores and get CPU temp to probably 38C. But I do Prime95 on Small FFT and it'd get to 43C on my C2 955 (my overclock is low, but it seems that it's this chip of mine that can't handle it as I get a crash anywhere over 3.6ghz).

So assuming I overclocked the way I wanted to and kept it around 60-62c with prime95 running for a few hours with no errors or crashes do you think that would be fine? or would I be playing with fire? (no pun intended)

Yep it'd be fine. Try to lower voltage while keeping it stable throughout. Less voltage, less heat.

Also mix around your programs, use AIDA 64, or Intel Burn Test, IBT can do the job of testing CPU and memory stablity while OC faster than prime95. But by no means is having say a prime95/ibt or other test indicative of a perfectly stable system while OC'ed after a certain duration. A rare crash can still occur no matter how many tests you put it through.

Alrighty, right now I'm at 1.45v and 3.8Ghz, maybe I'll touch it up to 1.475v and 4.0Ghz and see what that does, but I feel like I see most people say they need 1.5v for this particular processor.

62 is max, mine was on that most of prime test (cores anyway) for me an hour clear in prime is enough I never have the cpu stressed anyhow. But I guess if u are playing games a lot ideally you want the cpu around 55 and cores slightly above that, they will be anyway. As you say though are you using 100% cpu for games? I dont know.

I still want to lower my temps a bit its not even summer here yet. Hence why im now going to try MX-4.

If that don't do it iam turning the fans to suck air into the case as corsair say to do, and Im putting a duct up from back of case past the speaker and up into loft as its cooler up there, I may even remove the cobwebs from the wall and paint the ceiling while im up there lol

Oooh I love that paladin case you have. Got myself a HAF 932 its sexy. But anyway, ya I'm gonna toy around with the temps and voltage and see what makes me comfortable. I'll use 62c as my threshold! I got this

Hmm I am running HWMonitor and I noticed that it doesn't show any of the Core Temps, is this because I have my cores unlocked?

Well success..kind of. I put my vcore at 1.475 (hwmonitor showed it running at 1.49v) and my CPU at 4.0Ghz, the CPU ran at a stead 62c with intel burn test on maximum. Now the thing that made me nervous was my chipset, it was running at 64c. Hmm, so I'm debating (and being impulsive) should I buy fans for my chipset? I feel like the cpu and chipset temps should be almost identical?

Clarify chipset, do you mean Motherboard or Northbridge temps? Try to post a screenshot when possible.

Not sure re HWmon thing, it shows my cores but I prefer Everest/aida extreme.

As for chipset temp, I have not got anything that shows those temps do u mean GPU? If so Im sure they can run at zillions of degrees....
