Overclocking Water Cooled X4 4.4 GHz (X2 555 C3 Unlocked X4 B55) - Page 3

***? 1.28v how could this be? for me to go above x19 i would have to pump an extra .1 vcore just to make it stable (x20 @ 1.5vcore)

BTW when you run prime95 run it for full stress test.

So 160W is just the maximum amount of power the chip is designed to be expected to have pulled off it, that's not how much it is using. 4 core phenoms run at about 125W, +- depending on voltage/OC.

The reason X2s are X2s and not X4s is that they are binned as inferior X4s, hence they OC less well than their counterparts. This will of course vary considerably, with some X2s not even being able to unlock, to some unlocking to X4s that OC as well as any real X4. Luck of the draw for you.

P.S. impressive numbers you have there, < 1.3V going at 3.9GHz. Looks like you got one of the nicer ones.

EDIT: I Dunno what your HWMonitor read at 81C, but uh, watch out for whatever that is because that's way way too hot.
Actually quite alot of Phenom II X2s are now simply supply to demand not bad X4s, especially since people get them to try and unlock.

I found that my Phenom II OCed the same as X2 and X3 (could not test X4, 1 faulty core).

That is an amazing chip however 3.9ghz X4 @ 44C load with stock voltage? Wow.

I recommend your next upgrade be a 8+2 power phase mobo so you can really push it . Mite wanna wait for AM3+ mobos however so you can upgrade easier in the future.

@xd I always found that the stock cooler/discrete coolers always blew hot air on the mobo and actually heated it up. I always get lower motherboard temps with a tower cooler.

It is! I have been reading more posts about other people's chips and X4 unlock is great. Then to be able to run it at 1.275v (bios default when unlocked to X4) and hit 3.9GHz, just amazing to me lol.

I am eager to get the X2 and X3 testing underway. It will be a few days though. I like AM3+ advice. It is not like I really need anything more than stock speed for the games I play or the applications I run, so I am not sure when I will upgrade. Probably when I fry this board lmao!

Good sutff BWG. Keep it going.

I got 555 that unlocked and running all 4 cores. You can see ASROCK motherboard details in my signature. Easily overclocked to 3.7 GHz with 1.4 V (have not tried to reduce the voltage). Temperature under the load maxes at 48-49 C.

I'll post some pics and more questions tonite.......

Yeah, it is fun stuff!

I am going to watch my Mosfet very closely. I keep thinking about that 81C temp that showed on my HW Monitor. What kind of heatsink should I put on it? What kind of solution should I use to attach it?

Probably not much way to reliably tell the MOSFET temps anymore because having ACC enabled can indeed mess with your temp sensors

Find some MOS-C1 or maybe cut up some other old heatsinks you already have

Do you think I should stick to 1 heatsink per chip or is it safe to use 1 heatsink that spans accross all the chips?

I bet I can find something decent to use. All these old PC parts people asked me if I wanted laying around the basement lol. I almost threw most of them away when I moved, but I just couldn't. I even have a stinking 486 down there lol!

Either way works really. The point is cooling is more spread out over a bigger area and it's at least there. Better than no cooling at all especially with the Mugen 2 there blowing air over the MOSFETs but not onto it. A small fan would also be great for actually reducing the temps even further.

Let's see what I come up with. I have a few small fans. This might be interesting due to space restrictions!
