Computer Crashes when Videocard is under a load.

Thread Starter
So whenever a put some sort of load on my GTX 260, my computer turns off. At first I thought it was just Company of Heroes but then I tried Civ 5 and it crash the same way. The games will load to their main menu's but as soon as I start playing the actual game, it crashes.

This is what I've tried so far:

11 passes of Memtest86 on standard settings. Passed all times.
OCCT CPU burn in for 5 Hours. Did not crash.
Changed PCI-E ports and the card crashed under a load.
Tried my 8800 GTS 512 on both PCI-E Ports and tried both PCI-E dongles from my power supply (GTS only needs one PCI-E Dongle for power) and still it crashed under a load.
Oh, I had the latest drivers install (266.58) so I backtracked and used a couple different older drivers. Crashed under load.
And last but not lest, I did a clean install of windows and still she crashed out.

I thinking it a power supply issue because that is something I haven't looked at yet. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free. Thank you guys in advance for any advice given. Oh, I changed my Sig Rig to my troubled rig.

Well from what you described and what you tested, its either the PSU is dying / already on its way to the graveyard, or the card has a problem.

Best way is of course either testing the card on another computer, or testing another PSU.

How old is your PSU?

I agree that it sounds a lot like the psu, follow defolers advice and test it elsewhere

I've gambled with PSU's in the past, best thing is to go for a good one, I've been down the road of budget PSU's. I've had one blow up in my face.... needless to say every PSU I purchase since has been a more costly one, but in the end better.

Any bluescreen codes? Sounds like PSU.. if you can plug in a friends PSU and see if it runs okay.

These are classic bad PSU symptoms ... and Coolmax kinda sucks, too ... pretty safe bet you need a new unit.

I would suggest testing it on a different PSU or GPU before jumping to conclusions it could go either way, but since the computer automatically turns off instead of the video crashing it's most likely the PSU.

The computer turns off automatically with a load on the gpu. I've tried both GTX260 and 8800 GTS 512 with the same resolve. I will try another psu then I find time and let you guys know if it was that for sure or not.
