WRT54GL set up issues

Thread Starter
I currently have a smc 8014wn (crappy router ) that's connected to the wall. There are about 10 or so devices connected inluding this rig and I've been having many disconnections due to the wireless devices.

My problem is, how can I set up a wrt54gl with the smc 8014 so I can use dd-wrt on it? I don't understand the network connections these two would have to go through.

Appriciate any help!

EDIT: This is the router I wanted to set up dd-wrt; mainly for QoS that's being connected to this.

first flash the linksys with dd-wrt
instructions can be found here
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
and configure it for your lan/wlan

then log into the smc modem/router and disable its wireless
plug unplug everything from the smc, then plug the internet port on the linksys to one of the lan ports on the smc
done

Can 1 lan port that's connected from the smc to the linksys support 3 or 4 wired devices on the wrt54gl with no speed reduction?

I just wanted to make sure of running this "daisy chain".

I would disable the wireless on the SMC and set up either ddwrt or tomato on the linksys. Than connect the 1 LAN from the SMC to the WAN of the linksys and enable DHCP?
