I remember I upgraded my pc originally as it would be cheaper and better than a console. I got a 8400 gts and a slower core 2 duo(cant even remember which one) since then I have went to 8800gts, 1x 9800 gt to 9800 gt sli , gtx460 and now gtx 560. Its probbaly cost me in the region of 3k with all the upgrades in the last 3 years. This is not saving me a penny and before this I was happy with my PS2.

Is it just me? what are your views one it? are we obsessed with getting the highest settings possible even though console quality would be fine? Do forums liek these make you feel like you are the only one not getting the newest hardware?
You seriously have problems.. lol. If you, or anyone else for that matter can't create 1 rig to last you 5 years then ya should stay on a Xbox

Wait so if we can't make a rig to last 5 years we should force ourselves to use a rig that has a lifetime of ~10?

I don't want to use outdated tech. I want my machine to be able to play anything I throw at it.

I feel your pain OP, just now I was looking at threads and guys were talking about what graphic card would max out BF3... My computer isnt the best but I still get head shots on any game I play. To tell you the truth there probably isnt a better computer than mine within a 10 mile radius of where I live.

In the general sense I would say most people are.
Look at my rig, I havent upgraded it since I built it years ago. It plays games at an acceptable fps with good graphics. Sure it still struggles in 3v3? maxed army battles in starcraft 2, and in full tf2 servers, and neither game is at maxed settings. But was it worth it to upgrade several times to get to where I could play games maxed and get 60+ fps all the time? No, not for me. Higher graphics make a game better, but not to the point that justifies spending the money some people do to max out crysis and metro.

It's all personal preference.

Likewise. When I do game it's only COD or L4D2 normally.

I think that's why I don't really care about the latest catalyst drivers or GPU refreshes, I see it more as a hobby than a neccessity.

Black ops/ bf2 are the primairy games i play . My current system plays them perfectly. Any upgrade for me at this point would be A WANT- NOT -A NEED!!

I spent $2000 for my computer four years ago, have probably spent an extra $300 on it since, most of this money has gone to peripherals though so not much of a "hardware" upgrade in this context. Although I did get an extra 4Gb of RAM for free. At the end of this year I plan to spend another $400 to upgrade my computer, $200 on a graphics card and $200 on hard drives, that should keep my computer going for another 4 years unless a component dies.

I mean eventually, I just stopped caring about maxing out every single game that I had, and started enjoying the games more for what they were as opposed to just bits of eye-candy. Of course, eye-candy is always appreciated

At the eight year mark I'll probably give the computer another $400 booster, but surely by then, something in my PC would have given up. In another 4 years, I doubt I'll find anymore DDR2 RAM or 775 CPUs lol
