1.25GB VRAM enough for things like Oblivion with mods? (56K warning) - Page 4

Thank you very much Balla, I'm not quite sure if all the mods took but either way I would be happy with how the game looks in your screens and could probably get playable performance by cutting down on the AA or something, and VRAM doesn't look to be an issue so I consider this Oblivion modding VRAM venture a success.

I also read in one of the other mods by this Qarl guy that he said" I may release the uncompressed version of this mod but it would eat up huge amounts of VRAM, probably only people with 768MB would be able to use it" LOL. Granted that was one of the earlier ones from 2007 but still I think I should be fine, especially since you only used 822MB and looking at your pictures you had to have atleast some textures mods working.

This picture is the most definitive one I could find that would be able to tell us if all the mods are working or not, this is how the walls look in I believe the main imperial city and it's a pretty huge difference between texture enabled and disabled.

Thanks again Balla.

I also found a cool video of modded Oblivion looking amazing, I would love to be able to achieve this but without motion blur and with more FPS obviously, he says it's FRAPS killing the performance and that it's playable on his 1GB 4890 which I don't know about but I think I should be able to get pretty close to this with playable frames on a 570.

Yep I'd say so. Cool so I should be able to tune settings to make that playable. Thanks again.

I did a reinstall just to make sure I did it all right the first time (did it all manually instead of creating archives out of the 7zip files for some of them) so I would say it's most definitely working.

To the point, I was able to hit 955 vram usage running down the hill towards the first city (pics). I'm pretty sure if I ran around and visited more areas I'd go over 1k vram, so sli gtx 460/560 is probably going to manage a bottleneck on memory with the level of AA I'm running. I'd also venture a guess that installing higher texture mods for armor/weapons/mobs would put it up near 1200 vram.

I'd go with a gtx 570 or even a gtx 480 used and use the extra cash to possibly get into water cooling with it

Here are the screens with everything installed correctly, there are a lot more areas I didn't visit for different visuals but I'm starting to think I'll mod a few more graphical things then smash into it tomorrow when my new gtx 470 arrives to see how it performs (hope it's supported, haha).
