Sony and the courts do not have concrete evidence to proceed against Geohot. They needed whatever evidence that Geohot had.

There is also no proof Geohot tampered the hard drives. That is Sony's allegation because they could not find what they believed they would find.
You beat me to a couple of points there Riou. Hopefully I gave some further validation to them.

I'm not talking about war or hacking.

I'm talking about the difference between what each of feel is right or wrong and what those around us feel is acceptable.

What do you gain by staying?

No, he did something he knew was illegal. That is very distinct from something being "wrong".

I do not allow my morals to be legislated to me by a committee of politicians. The can make all the laws they want, but they cannot tell me what is right or wrong. Likewise, I see no honor in sticking around and facing an unwinnable fight against an enemy that completely outnumbers and outclasses me, who would never dream of giving me a fair chance.

As far as him handing over his equipment, it really depends on how specific the court order was. He in fact did hand over the hard drives to a neutral 3rd party, but SCEA claims they were tampered with. To me if they really wanted to get the information they were looking for on them, they (the courts and Sony) should have sent someone to collect his equipment as it was before giving him a chance to mess with anything. So, depending on the circumstances and how you look at them, he did exactly what the courts asked him to do, albeit AFTER he allegedly took out certain "parts" of the info.

Also, I'm not sure when his trial is, and as long as he shows up for that, then he hasn't evaded anything. Same goes for his taxes, if he's not employed in the US and doesn't have any sort of taxable income, then he's not evading his taxes either, at least until next year when it comes time to file his taxes, and that's only if he owes.

Again, I'm in no way, shape or form condoning nor condemning what Hotz did (or didn't do for that matter).
Well to set the tax thing straight, I wasn't implying that he would get in trouble for tax evasion. I was just stating that tax evasion is a crime, and I thought trial evasion would be as well. Riou claims that it is not, but this case shows otherwise. He was undergoing civil trials after his separation from his wife, to support her and their son. He evaded the trial and was arrested for evasion.

He has also placed that in post he made in the past on his site and his homebrewing guides, stating that he will not EVER release info o pirate games because he is against that.

You believe everything you read on the internet, don't you? How can you possibly know his true intentions? Those could easily be covering statements to wiggle out of the trouble he is in.
I read on the internet that the tsunami in Japan was fake, so if you believe it actually happened then you are a moron.

Come one, what you are saying wreaks of troll stench...
read two post above you. Ive read his stuff since back when he jailbroke the iphone. You are just new to all this cause of the sony case. Dont be ignorant.
he didnt show people how to pirate games. Others did that on their own.

The biggest reason he is such a deserving smacktard is that he tried to capitalize on it by selling exclusive rights to the "solution." Other than that, he blatantly and openly flaunted the fact that it was him in the forums when he was getting a ton of props from people. Probably doesn't feel like such the big man now. Having to flee like a whipped dog.

Who feels sorry for this idiot?

Ok? I wasn't denying what Geo said. But what Geo said isn't what Geo wants. I'm still loling if you honestly think that because he says he doesn't support piracy he actually doesn't.

He didn't show anyone how to pirate, but he sure as hell opened the PS3 wide open to allow them to do so, which is the strong point for Sony. "Geo's hack allows millions of people to pirate our titles."

Thats not the case because he made the same statements before all this sony stuff even started. Even before the lock down of other OS. He showed people how to have homebrew and made a statement he will never give out the code to allow piracy of the games, because that takes away from the developers and programmers hard work.

WOW! 70+ people viewing! This is one legendary, hilarious thread!

I have not a morsel of sympathy for him. He tried to act as some liberator against a perceived tyrannical force and he failed and lied! I don't believe he cared about "freeing" everyone from the clutches of Sony just because they removed an option that the overwhelming majority of their user base ignored. I believe this was just a platform to stroke his ego as it is for most [smart] hackers. As cynical as that may seem, its what I believe.
