Getting my new 6950 2maro. I need to know what I should do....
On a side note, theres no way to keep my 4870 in there for Physx or anything similar is there? I kno physx is Nvidia, but just curious is there is any reason to keep the classic or sell.
A friends' card was fully unlocked to a 6970 but artifacted. Then I read somewhere that the 6970 and a 6950 uses different binned GDDR chips (so as its timings and max clock). We unlocked the shaders only then it worked fine! So I'd suggest unlocking only the shaders then overclocking it.
We haven't tried adjusting the powertune after though..
Flash that bad boy to a 6970 and then overclock it. 2X Sapph cards here and both working just fine at stock voltage at 950/1450. Just turn up that PowerTune setting to +20% in CCC and voila. With 2 bios it's not a big deal. So what if it artifacted? Flash it back and RMA if need be. The above posters friend had a bad card. Full flashes seem to be working fine 99% of the time.
Sapphire 6950 here, unlocked right away using 6970 bios. It has been rock solid for a week now. Tried a modified 6950 for shaders but just got crashes.
I would recommend modded 6950 bios ( shader unlock only), one of my 6950's is artifacting at stock settings after trying full 6970 flash, prob due to diff voltages/timings for memory. The other is currently oc at 900/1300 on stock volts with plenty of room to go. unlocking shaders is the safer route, you can still mess with voltages and oc settings afterwards.

Doesn't necessarily mean that it will be like that with every card. My 6950 is running on the modified BIOS for the shaders, no crashes.
I just got my msi 6950 in the mail. I installed it, played crysis for 5 min, and used tpu's package with the batch file to flash to 6970. Works great, no artifacts, card does get a bit hotter though. If you do flash keep an eye on the heat.
