Did file-sharing cause recording industry collapse? Economists say no

And in other news, the sun rises, daily!

But seriously, who bothers buying a whole album now-in-days anyways? It seems single record sales made the most difference, and now record companies just have to get used to the less than desirable profit margins, or just get better talent that produces better songs. Maybe someone could get They Might be Giants, or Tally Hall doing stuff for them.

Just like home-taping didn't kill the recording industry.
what killed the industry was lousy music. I love how they blamed everything else first.

Lazy ignorant business men, making fortunes off artists. Digital distribution should be the thing that saves music, they just need to get rid of the last few cling ons in suits.
It's happening in all industries now, everyone wants to be a business man or a sales man but nobody wants to actually make the product, just collect a paycheck from it.
That is a failing model. 30 people doing administrative work (AKA internet surfing) getting paid more than the one who makes the product...

i only listen to pandora. even in my car. i haven't used an ipod since i was in iraq 18 months ago. haven't downloaded music since way before then.

but anyway, I think artist might make their best music while they are struggling to make it. so in a sense, the file sharing era is helping them. LOL /sarcasm

terrible rushed music due to greedy industry execs is what killed it. i always liked buying cds to support artist but when it got to where a cd would have 12 songs on it and only 3 were any good then I stopped supporting the cds.
