You release this kind of music and you still wonder why nobody buys music?
My first thought when I heard that song was that she sounded strangely like what I imagine a gopher to sound like.

The need for more affordable music is what spawned piracy, that doesn't make it correct, nevertheless, artist will find a way to reach their intended audience, the consumer, not the corporation!

Now, if you will excuse me, I'm gonna sit back and pop on some Hendrix.
I still have my original Band Of Gypsies lp. Been played about a dozen times. I played it once to hear in it's mint condition, played it a second time (and many more once I ruined the cassette multiple times) to record it to cassette and most recently recorded it to CD for use in the car. I rarely break out certain albums just to listen to them since they are so valuable (to me anyway). I have at least a dozen mint condition LP's including an unopened Beatles second album.

$4 for one or two songs on a disc that can hold hundreds is a waste an the people that thought that one up were probably summarily executed. Which is why they probably aren't offered much anymore.

I forgot where I read it, but it they just churned them out like a factory line.
This is why i love bands like TOOL, they take forever to put out an album, but when it comes out it is a masterpiece that i listen to over and over and over.

But if the industry does die then how do the Indy artists make a living? Because without mainstream media to drive the music industry who will they compare themselves to and how does music grow as a result?

Think of it like this. Without big hair bands like Winger etc. Does Nirvana exist? That was their driving influence was not liking the current offerings and wanting to make it big in their own right but not turning into another big hair band.

Without Mainstream Music how do Guitarists like Satrianni and Steve Vai get influenced and become mega legends in their own right. Every Artist has an influence. Take away the influence and it gets that much more difficult for artists to be discovered.

Do you think that Red Hot Chili Peppers or Oingo Boingo get as big if they stick to the College circuit and rely on word of mouth to get them here? Danny Elfman have his Movie Scores are a result? Extremely unlikely.

The industry needs to be around, but they have to understand the days of free money are over. The consumer has made it loud and clear that they will not be taken advantage of anymore. Give us good solid artists and music and we will buy. If not, then we'll continue to vote with our wallets and buying power.

On monday, I bought the latest album from a chap called Joe Bonamassa, who is, IMO, the greatest guitar player out there today. Thus I didn't mind buying his album on release day . Here is a video of him live back in 2007.

Hi All,

Greed is killing the recording industry. We heard the same BS when I was a kid and everybody had cassette recorders that they would copy their favorite songs off the radio on. Strange they are still here still griping about the same thing.

Of the genres I listen to, the only one that seems to live on as strong as ever is hardcore techno - and that one's very underground in the US. But when was the last time you heard an album like The Sound of Perseverance, Paid in Full, Dirt or Capital Punishment released by a major label?
