i have bought CD's for twice to 4x that price. call me stupid.

The reason people are not buying whole albums anymore is because many albums really only have one good song (or popular but really bad) and the rest are garbage. Whatever happened to the 70s and 80s, when you listened to entire albums because they really were compilations of all of an artist's best songs - not just a compilation of every song the artist ever wrote and tried to sing.

I have, too. Once. It was a gold plated copy of Dark Side of the Moon - An album worth listening the entire way through.

A lot of the music I like tends to be rare, imported, or out of print so some of it gets to be fairly pricey. I hate that

You don't have any decent import shops in Ft. Worth? I'd be surprised if you don't. When I lived in Boise we had 5 of them. Of course then Borders came to town and you could have them order anything you wanted. Still spendy but it was pretty reasonable at the time considering what shops in San Francisco and Santa Rosa were wanting before I had moved away from the Bay Area.

Now I live in a town that has zero access to things like that. I have to drive to Vancouver, WA if there is something I want. I refuse to drive to Portland because the traffic is insane. I thought the 101 was bad during rush hour. Traffic in Portland makes you glad you don't live there 24/7.

Nope, I got them direct download. And the soundtrack is awesome in my opinion.

I'm sure there are some nice little shops around, but I've honestly never looked. I'll typically buy direct from the label or specialty webshops - fortunately a pair of my favorite labels (tympanik audio & n5md) also run stores where they import things for hardly any profit of their own, so I buy a lot from there. Every once in awhile I'll buy from a user or seller on discogs though for something that I can't find anywhere else.

I haven't bought anything terribly pricey or out of print recently because I've been spending my money on other things...but some of the cds that I have purchased have gone out of print and sellers are charging ridiculous amounts for em - here are some of the more egregious examples:

I don't even listen to music anymore

I used to love listening to full albums when I loved the artist, but that hasn't been for a few years with Evans Blue's first album, memorizing every song. People don't really take that kind of time to listen to good music at once, though; our 'fast, easy, cheap' mindset doesn't let us.

I don't really blame music, I blame people.

side note: Does anyone know of a car audio system that plays FLAC? either OEM or aftermarket?
build an image on imgburn as a music cd and just burn it as an actual CD...pretty sure you can do that with flac without losing any quality

the blank medium and storage industry also caused the collapse of the recording industry.
