do i need to plug in both to make it work as well? or can i just plug only 1 6pin connecter to it?
Before you worry about the GPU like we said get the Mobo/CPU/RAM running first. Since you said you tried that and nothing happened it is probably a PSU problem.

You are right a 4pin setup can and will probably do that. But yes the PSU is undersized for an SLI setup.

*EDIT* OP I don't know of any motherboard that has the standoffs already attached?!?! maybe I am just out of the Mobo mix now-a-days. Usually they come with the cases...

Do you have access to another PSU? something in the 750w range if you want to SLI should be able to do it.
Agreed. OP, you need a bigger PSU. That should fix your issues. I ran your system through eXtreme's PSU calculator and it recommended at least 525W for your setup.

Oh, I misunderstood 2x1GB as two cards.
Both 6 pins HAVE to be plugged in.

btw: those PSU 'guesstimators' are inflated...however, single gpu, a quality 500w will be plenty of power. However, the matter at hand now is the mobo isn't powering up (cpu/memory only) it can be anything from faulty psu to a motherboard issue.

i cant even get to bios before the computer shuts itself off.

Literally it shuts itself off (including all the fans) after 3 seconds of turning it on

also idk if this is important but when i turn on the switch at the back of the psu, the computer turns itself on automatically without me ever touching the power button

You can test that the PSU works with the paperclip method. Like someone else mentioned, it may just be not powerful enough since if its an el-cheapo PSU. Sometimes they overstate the output.

Err are you sure that you plugged the PWR, RESET, HDD (case buttons) onto the right pins on the motherboard??

MAYBE you have the reset/power reversed?
^that's a possibility.

or, the polarity on the cables is reversed.

noo its in the right place im 100% sure. I even mixed it up and put power and reset switched but still same thing. shutting off after 3 second.

so basically i should get a new psu then eh? would a 600w from FSP be okay?

i cant believe the psu is doa or maybe its not enough watt for the pc specs.

risers?

ninja edit, good brands like antec, corsair, and some users specify by their pc power and cooling, silverstone, and some even bfg (shudders)

Like someone else said, DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR PSU!!! You will regret it, I recommend upping to a 750-800w. Then at least it will last you awhile and will allow room for expansion.

Go with a reputable name brand, not some el-cheapo make.

Maybe take some closeup photos of your setup and connections so we can help you further?
