i dont think its the ram but what position are you supposed to put it? i just put the 2 i have closest to the processor like this >>> l l l l = ; ; l l (; ; is ram)

also my setup is exactly like this picture here

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/attachments/air-cooling/1862d1206891719-antec-900-thermalright-ultra-120-dsc05741.jpg

i have the 24pin connected, and the 4pin connected at top left, sata cables connected, the power on, reset, hdd led cables connected at bottom right hand, and 2 ram side by side, but the only difference is my cd/dvd reader is at the top and is basically loose and my hdd is at the very bottom

2 dead mobo in last 6 months both power down after 3 seconds and power up...then off,and so on.

Just saying.

If its the PSU then its one REALLY bad one. Even the crap power supplies I've owned would at least boot into windows. It's not like everything fires up at full draw when you switch on a computer.

well, when I built my PC the first time I turned it on It shut off a second later. I was like FUUUUU---- then it rebooted by itself and I posted into the bios. and here I am still using it 5 months later with no problems. smile.gif

-check the manufacturer's website for RAM compatibility. they always have a list of mobos and ram that is the best compatible with it.

-its possible that your psu sucks. do you have a spare psu lying around to test it? try that if you do.

-calm down! it being your first build does seem difficult but this can be a learning experience for the future. look at the bright side of things, and when you figure this all out and get your pc up and running, you will feel relieved.

-did you install the cpu heatsink? maybe its a thermal shutdown....

-are the standoffs correctly installed? I've heard of incorrect standoffs shorting parts out.

-did you check the cpu for bent pins before you installed it?

Post pics of how you have the standoffs attached...? Standoffs normally come with your case and you have to screw them in separately.

the standoffs were already in the case. but only 4 were bolted in the case. 2 of them are now stuck on the motherboard lmao. is that a big problem? i was always wondering why it got stuck there and why only 4 of them are bolted to the case. i tried to take it off the mobo but its stuck there good.

I had this problem before, I cant seem to recall how i fixed it though. If your Mobo has an IGP (Built-in GPU) Use that first, with only the PSU, 1 stick of ram, and the CPU. And Before all of that, reset your BIOS.

If that all fails, Its most probably your PSU/Mobo. Also, My old rig had a Generic Unbranded 500w PSU, and it runs just fine on an IGP.
