Help with my overclocked i7 920 Alienware Aurora

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum, and i've heard it's one of the best overclocking forums.
Anyways, I'm fairly new to overclocking, having only overclocked two PCs.
I overclocked my Alienware Aurora to 3.7 GHz and I had a few questions.

CPU-Z info http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1727505
(It's actually 3.728GHz, it was only at 3.9GHz for a few seconds)
Specs:
Alienware Aurora
intel Core i7 920 @3.728 GHz
x2 ATI Radeon HD 5670
1333Mhz(I think) Tri-Channel 3GB RAM(Yeah, i know it's ****)
Stock Alienware Cooling/Fans

Overclock settings:
Bus Clock @177MHz
+20 mV in overvoltage configuration.

Alienware's BIOS is pretty weird.
I've seen others getting more GHz out of this system(almost exactly same) and when I use higher settings(180) I get BSODs after a bit or immediately for extremely high settings(215). Is there any settings I can use to overclock higher? If there is anything I need(More RAM, etc) let me know please. Also, is the cooling/fans enough to prevent my existing set-up from overheating? The temps look okay.

Thanks,
AIienware

First and foremost, thats a pre-built system, i dont think you can overclock much out of it. Second, please fill up the your PC specs in your profile for us to better help you. wink.gif

Also, I noticed you're at Very low Vcore for at 3.9ghz, I suggest bumping the Vcore up a few times, slowly would possibly increase stability.

Thanks for your quick reply biggrin.gif
vcore is the +20 mV thing right? I'm not very familiar with Alienware's BIOS, sorry. And I know, it's prebuilt but the BIOS is pretty unlocked and allows for a lot of overclocking IMO. And I filled out the specs as best I could being away from my PC right now, only thing is I'm not sure if I have the right memory speed. If there's any other info I should add please let me know, thanks.

Hi, how are you doing? We may be the only two members with dells (or, at least not afraid to admit it). I think I may have the same system as you almost. I upgraded a few things. The first question you need to answer is what bios are you using for your motherboard? Should be a11.

and this

Your memory may be a limiting factor in your over clock.
You also want to get cpuid's cpu-z
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
and cpuid's hwmonitor
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

It's not a bad computer and it is pretty easy to o/c. It just takes alot of trial and erro to get it rite.

I'll be around today.

Good luck have fun!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I JUST saw the new BIOS update and installed it, was on A09 before. How were you able to get 4GHz stable?

I try not to dwell on that and really hate to be reminded of it. However I did find OCN and will be building my next system all by myself and it will probably end up costing twice as much as the alienware I bought cause now I know what I really want. What I really really want.

Specifically tho, like the BIOS settings, or what it was that let you go that high?
