It looks like our sources were spot on with that info as the new price, or to be precise, the real launch price will be set at US $699/€649 incl. VAT.
Source

30$ cheaper than the 6990, interesting.

You know, how the 580 "is still going to be obscenely huge, and, well, it won’t be enough to beat the competition. Heck, it won’t be enough to beat the current champ, AMD’s HD5970/Hemlock, much less the upcoming Cayman and Antilles parts. It is going to be a slaughter."

Lol @ Charlie.

OMG I HOPE NOT (lol)! This only makes me slide more towards doing a rebuild with sli 590's at that price sooner.... Unless it's totally not worth it

Even with this, it's not enough. The Radeon HD 6990 is faster. Like I've said many times, it's the overall downclock of 20% what will limit this card's potential. It'll be the same speed as a GTX 570 SLI or a bit slower.

And before anyone chimes in talking about over-clocks: we're comparing stock performance. Stock performance is what is used to determine if one card is faster than the other, and the HD 6990 has clearly won that.

Stock performance is very important. HOWEVER, there are cases when it would be silly to not take into account overclocked performance. For example, consider the 5970.

It shipped with clock speeds considerably lower than 5870 CF. But, pretty much every single card successfully overclocked to those speeds or higher. It was so common that it was an advertised feature for some of the cards.

If virtually every single GTX590 can successfully overclock to speeds just below, at, or above a GTX580, it would be naive to dismiss that from being a factor when comparing performance.

...The 6990's bios is OC'd so, it's not even an even playing field to begin with.

At equal clocks, we'll make a conclusion...
