[DT] Crysis 2 Is Developed For PC First, Not Consoles. - Page 12

Crysis was one of the main reasons why I upgraded my PC ever year. When Intel released a new platform or Nvida/ATI released new graphics cards, I had to have it. I was all set to buy a GTX 580 this week. Now I have Crysis 2, my current 6950 is more than enough, and that's great, so great that I don't have a need to upgrade my PC hardware for the rest of this year. The hardware companies lose out the most because many people will stay with their current builds. Crysis really increased the consumption of PC hardware over the last four years, it looks like that could potentially slow down in the future.

What do you mean? Its more fun to use power in Crysis 2 as you can do 3 things a once vs 1 in Crysis. One thing i noticed is speed is much slower in Crysis 2.

They made it slower so the maps would seem bigger/larger. So it takes you, the player, longer to traverse the playable map and therefore it seems the map is bigger than it actually is. From all the info, maps are smaller than what you could find in Crysis 1.

As for DirectX9? It is ancient! It was launched in 2002. I repeat 2002! Almost a decade. Back then Windows XP was a brand new OS. GeForce3 cards with 64MB of VRAM were still a hot item, heck, Saddam was still ruling Iraq with an iron fist, well, you get the idea. 2002 was loooong time ago. That's how old that API, that version of DirectX is.

Never had a problem switching between modes.

I suggest everyone watch nanosuitninja on youtube so they can learn to play crysis the way it was meant to be played.

Gameplay wise, Crysis was a POS. Then again, the original wasn't ever going for "best storyline" or "best gameplay".

Original game lost my interest way too quickly.

On the other hand, stunning graphics, where as 2 is a step backwards.

Indeed. Lot of freedom on mission completion. The "Onslaught" level is awesome and pretty HUGE. Some of my CoD playing friends and family members could not grasp the size of that level. I kept getting asked dumb questions like: "I can actually drive the tank down that valley... into that village? That's a real village down there?" The look on their faces was just priceless. I guess years of running around tiny block-sized maps playing twitch shooters like CS and CoD will do that to a person.

Crytek doesn't earn nearly as much money making a program that is used as a hardware benchmark. Only a very small fraction of PC gamers give a crap about benchmarking their hardware.
