[DT] Crysis 2 Is Developed For PC First, Not Consoles. - Page 13

Here is what I can see happened to crytek. It looks like EA held a gun to their head and said make this game for consoles so we can make money. So they did. You CAN NOT build a game purely for graphics with mediocre story and game play and sell it to consoles, you make no money period. Crytek work extremely hard to optimize gameplay, and improve the story. Which they did a pretty good job at. To be honest with you guys after playing that game for about 3 hours straight its pretty damn good. I honestly could careless about directx11. The game looks good, feels good and is fun to play. Besides the multiplayer this game runs extremely well out of the box. As long as I can play SP until mp is fixed I am happy. All you graphic fanboys should shutup. Im honestly tired of hearing you guys act like little girls. OMG its a port! End of the world!!! If this game is a port, its one of the best out there.

QFT. I don't like how they kinda shafted some of the graphic settings but overall this game is intense on veteran.

"feel" ??? I kept seeing this word back in 2007/2008 when people were talking about NT 5.x vs 6.x raw performance (Win2k/XP vs Vista). Vista folks were all: "It feels faster", or "It feels more stable", or "It feels better", all when confronted with performance charts/graphs showing otherwise, people reporting widespread usability issues and what not. Is this the same kind of feel? Sort of like throwing away good money on a console port and then trying to justify it when others point out obvious flaws?

I'm so tired of hearing about it being a console port. Let me give you guys a clue real quick, unless you haven't figured it out by now:
PC Games make a small fraction of their console counterparts. So get used to "console ports", because PCs are an afterthought for many developers. Not because developers dislike PCs, it's because developing for PCs costs more, takes more time and makes less profit. While developers may be willing to take the time to take care of the PC end of things, the publisher couldn't give a rat's ***, they only care about profit.

The exception of course are games that haven't found their way onto consoles, yet. Like many MMOs, RTSs, and other games that really don't do well without a keyboard and mouse, which consoles haven't adopted as standard equipment yet. These games are still making much more on the PC.

Also, please learn the definition of a console port.
Console ports are when a game is coded entirely for a console, and then converted over to PC. In the case of Crysis 2, the engine it uses will allow for content to be made for all platforms simultaneously. Now, maybe the options and textures, etc, were made with a console's performance in mind more than a PC, but that doesn't make it a port.

where's the quicksave button? where's the 64-bit mode? where's our MOD TOOLS? WHERE IS DX 11? where is the advanced graphics options?

p.s.: "good", "very good", and "extreme" should be changed to "good","slightly better", and "slightly slightly better".

proof me wrong, otherwise, not impressed.

While it is not directly a console port, HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPLAIN THE "Please Press Start" CRAP IN THE DEMO HUH?

While the PC may not hold a demanding share of the market, it's still a part of their market. If there going to give us s**t games, we should have the right to drop them (the developers). If developers don't want to develop proper games for the PC, great for them, they just loss x% of the market share, which I'm pretty sure losing any sales would be significant to them. Companies are in the business to make money, and if they are going to blatantly turn a blind eye to the PC community, then I have absolutely no problem not supporting them.

I'm not being elitist. I'm just being realistic. How the hell is technology going to advance if developers are unwilling to even acknowledge the fact that PC's are a much stronger, albeit harder to developer for (more hardware configurations, OS differences, DX9/10/11, etc...), platform. PC gamers don't go out and buy DX10/11 capable cards for absolutely no reason. The fact that the PC market is just an afterthought for most developers is why we aren't going to be advancing in the field of 3D Graphics anytime soon. Seriously, since Crysis, the only stunning game (graphically) has been what? Metro? Are developers really that lazy / underfunded?

We are essentially still using technology that we had in 2002, yes that's right 2002. When DX9 was released. We could have seen Crysis style graphics back in 2002 people...(ok well at that point the hardware was lacking, but hopefully you see the point...)

My point is, even though we aren't the majority of the market share, how can people just sit idly by, and watch as developer after developer go and turn their back on the PC?

Now, I'm not going out and saying C2 is bad. I'm just not going to get it because of the complete lack of ANY significant advance from the original. In fact, it's probably a step backwards.

(Side Note: I am not one who plays games just for graphics [more of a gameplay / story immersion type o guy], I am just using that as an example for this situation.)

Did you read the last sentence of my post? I said many of the options may done with consoles in mind. I'm not disputing that there was a focus on consoles as well as PC. But it's a multiplatform game, they need to focus on all three platforms. And it takes a lot of extra time and money to focus on each platform individually with attention to detail, and it's obvious EA wasn't willing to do that. The lack of graphics options is pretty ridiculous though considering how flexible the engine is supposed to be.

From what I've read the graphics options are all there in the command line. So how hard would it be for them to implement a simple GUI interface? It's honestly not rocket science, I would say it should take a week, TOPS.

To me, that's a sign of laziness.
