I'm going to take a guess and say you still live with your parents. Have you tried to get a job lately? I've been out of work for 10 months. People are losing their homes STILL. Unemployment has barely moved. Do you REALLY think that the best business move for a VIDEO GAME company right now is to try to sell them $60 for a game PLUS $300 for a GPU/OS?!
If developers continue to support DX9 and XP; then yes, they are taking a step backward. What don't you get about the advancement of technology? Someone is going to get screwed, either upgrade or move out of the way.

As for that second part...Video game companies don't sell GPU's first off. Second off, it's by necessity that they start using the newer technologies available to them (ie DX11) or else they are going to be left behind.

Is it really that hard for you to see why people would be pissed off at crytek? Do you work for them or something? They say they are going to support the PC, they said they are going to be giving us DX11, etc... Yet all I've seen so far is DX9, limited control over the visuals, and "Please press start to begin"...

So yeah, Crytek can go suck one.

Unfortunately there is no motive for developers to do any more advancement with their games. The issue is that developers have reached the potential of the current generation of consoles. There is no need for them to change or advance in any way.

Why would they change at all, when all they have to do is continue making new games for PS3 and Xbox 360 and they will continue to make money?

People are still buying Xbox and PS3 consoles. Developers will continue to make games suited for them. All Microsoft and SONY have to do is keep marketing the hell out of their current consoles and people will continue buying them.

We will not see an increase in the graphical quality of PC games until a new generation of consoles is released.

Microsoft and SONY need to stop milking profits off their 5 year old technology and come up with a new gaming system.

Look at cellphones, Computers, ect. In the last Five years they have changed SOOOO much. While Microsoft and SONY sit there and do nothing. it is actually ridiculous to think that pieces of technology like the current gen of consoles are still being sold and marketed at "cutting edge- good graphics- HD experience ect ect" And consumers just fall for these shennanagins.

It's the same usual thing. People that know better get screwed my masses of ignorance. I wouldn't care that much if they were all super great games and not just products of a streamlined production machine.

It's alright I guess. The next gen consoles are only a few years down the road, probably... well maybe. If the global economy improves we can probably expect a spiritual successor to Crysis-1 with some insane and ground breaking graphics around 2016-2017. It's only a half a decade away guys, just be patient.

Maximum Armor! Maximum Speed! Maximum bullsh**!

Seriously though, the advancement of technology has stalled in the last few years. First we hit the power wall with CPU's back in mid 00's (more cores, not so much GHz), even though vast majority of software even today can't really take advantage of multi-core CPU's (on the other hand pretty much any app out there could take advantage of 10GHz single-core CPU's at this point). But hey, we got the iPad, better Hybrid cars, and Justin Bieber, right, rite?

Sorry, devs run a business, not a non-profit for tech nerds. Until you make enough money to pass out free copies of Windows 7 and Nvidia 480's, you should shush.

You didn't comprehend what I said. Go back, read it again until it makes sense to you. It has a lot to do with your horrible idea of developers trying to force people to upgrade.

As far as devs go, i'm sure not one of them cares about you tech nerds thinking they'll get 'left behind'. They care about making games they can sell, and gameplay ALWAYS sells over graphics. Take Crysis 1 and Metro 2033's sales for example......

I can see why people might be let down a bit but to be pissed off just shows they're immature teens who have their priorities messed up.

And most of what you're saying is a horrible rehash of what WorldExclusive said and I already responded to. Why you'd go around repeating what he JUST said, except only worded worse, is beyond me.

What a dick. Don't get personal with me. I'm a business owner, good luck with your job search, wouldn't hire you for the "Spin" department if I owned Crytek. Yeah, I'm an elitist when compared to you. I've lived on my own since my freshman year in college, over ten years ago. It's fine to debate PC tech, but don't get personal with people you rather not know personally.

Clock for clock new processors are still getting faster. A 2500k is twice as fast clock for clock as the original q6600 series level processors and can be clocked 50% higher (so 3x faster total).

As far as gaming goes though, CPUs don't really matter. You have AI and general game code running on CPUs, but if you take advantage of the full DX11 feature-set (and DX11 is massively parallel on anything offloaded to the CPU), there's not much left for the CPU to do.

Wow someone got defensive. What I said to you was not some stupid suggestion that you're a 40 yr old man in a basement, I assumed you were young due to the fact that your opinion lacked real world knowledge.

The fact remains that if you lived on your own paying your own bills and budgeting your own money you'd see the foolishness behind what you're suggesting. You don't talk like a business owner, you talk like a 20 yr old who has plenty of free cash to burn.

The fact that I had to break down what should be COMMON SENSE for you as a supposed business man, sends up red flags.

In all honesty, it's the world economy doing more to slow the use of new tech more than anything else. Devs are dialing back their budget and their risk. Consumers are dialing back their unnecessary purchases.

I'd fully expected to see Dx11 GPUs around 10%, double what they are now. It's only grown around 2% since last year. Anything more than sprinked on tessellation is going to run like a slideshow for anything 5870/480 and lower. Think about how it gets 30fps in a heavily tessellated benchmark, then think about what a full game brings to that equation.
