Uh, we're talking about $700 cards. Why would a resolution lower than 1920x1200 matter?

People pick TPU for a reason, they test the most programs/games and keep a comprehensive chart at the end. You can look at something like [H]OCP and see a very different picture since they usually test like 3 games and thats it.

Either way, like I said they're both very close. But overall, the 590 is ahead by a hair. However the absurdly loud fan noise from the 6990 would push me towards the 590 before I ever let such a miniscule performance differential sway my decision.

I dont agree with u,I've seen in most of the benchmarks that hd6990 beats gtx590.
I dont want u all to talk as a AMD/NVIDIA fan boy because it'll create a flame war.
Just be practical.....I agree with most of the other members that hd6990 is the fastest gfx card.
Dont take me wrong,I'm not a fanboy,I love both AMD & NVIDIA

Probably for the same reason that resolutions above 2560x1600 matter to people who don't have multiple displays? And low resolutions do a good job of showing scaling, whereas multiple-monitor resolutions are pretty much a war of 'who has more Vram'.

Or did you think it was magical that the 4GB 6990 gained an edge over the 3GB 590 as display size increased, when it was so much slower at the base resolutions?

You're entitled smile.gif But until a source is presented to me that shows more games/benches than TPU with such a comprehensive list at the end, that's who gets my traffic.

2x gtx580 cost $1000,
for the same amount I would have picked 3x hd6970 if I had money,it would have been a much better setup.
But,like I said before...dont post anything other than articles related to hd6990/gtx590

hd6990 was not at all "very much slower" in 1080p(in the link u posted)
I cant post picture of any benchmarks because I do internet from mobile,so sorry.
HD 6990 is an overall faster card over gtx590

Yeah they're even at 1080P. As resolution goes up the 6990 pulls ahead, as it goes down the 590 pulls ahead. I'd definitely rather be in the 6990s position for sure when it comes to that, but its still important to look at the whole picture smile.gif Doing otherwise is what we like to call 'cherrypicking'.

Unless of course you're asking for a single resolution, but you didn't mention that in your OP!

The GTX 590 is about 1% faster according to most reviews, I'd call it even though.

There are better options out there though since 6990s should come with this:

And 590s should come with this:

Electronic-Fragile-Shipping-Label-D1039.gif

I don't think either company can say they have the fastest graphics card.
