PC freezing problems

Thread Starter
First of all I'd like to thank overclock net for being a great help when building my pc which is running pretty well right now, so thank you everyone

anyways, to the problem. My computer has a semi-serious issue with freezing when im not on it. I dont know what exactly happens because I'm usually not around when it happens but if I leave my computer on for half an hour or longer unused, for dinner, or a washroom break or anything like that, it freezes. My mouse and keyboard die and everything on my computer freezes (spinning avast symbol as well as time are frozen) however the computer itself is on. With all the other kinks and bugs in my pc Ive left this till the last minute because if im on my computer its usually on 4 hour bursts anyways, but downloading video games over night can be tedious

I already set the power saving settings to never sleep/hibernate/shut off HDD etc. Yet none of that has worked. Ive scoured through my bios trying to find something that might affect this but what little i understood doesnt seem like it would make a difference.

I should note that my computer does occasionally freeze (maybe once a week?) when I'm actively using it but I've been on my pc for 6 hours at a time without issue. But if I leave my computer on and don't actively use it for 15-30 minutes it freezes 100% of the time

Anyways i was hoping you guys over here at overclock net could help me out a bit
thanks in advance

EDIT:
just want to add something that I find noteworthy. Over the weekend I watched black swan (terrible movie) and managed to watch the whole thing without it freezing.

thoughts?

I would suggest downloading Memtest, And similiar programs to check temps ,RAM and your hard drives. Good luck random freezing can be tough to isolate. I have personlaly had similiar issues and worked them out! The last time was a overheating GPU. Goodluck

realtemp shows normal temperatures, even during gaming. I will download and run memtest now.

Could be the cpu... is it overclocked?
Possibly ram too, try using one stick in different channels, maybe you should downclock the ram. Run the program memtest+. Use prime95 for cpu stability testing..

I don't believe those tests will help, OP has freezes when PC is idle, not under load...
Tough one...
Corrupted Windows Updater?
GPU problem resulting in crashing screensaver?

Those are my suggestions

I had the same issue, with the same RAM memory. Try to manually raise the frequency to 1600MHZ (it should be running at 1333MHz by default), and change the timings to 9-19-9-27. This worked for me.
If the error persists, try to raise the VRAM voltage by a single tip, just above 1.5v.
