Bottle neck - 1090T vs 6950

Thread Starter
Didnt know if this would go in cpu or gpu so i put it in general.

Basicly the title; i am planning on getting a build using a 1090 and 6950 (xfire later)

what i want to know is at STOCK speeds, which of these would bottleneck the other first.

If the cpu BN's the gpu, how much would i have to overclock the CPU to match the GPU.

If the 6950 does not bottleneck the gpu, will a second 6950? If so, again how much would i need to overclock the cpu to match.

Plan around bulldozer and AM3+, instead.

i AM planning around it, im planning to wait for AM3 price drops when BD is released..
im not rich and i doubt i could afford the prices of the newer chips, which i dont NEED cause the performance of the PIIx6 is still spectacular.

Not looking for people to tell me what to buy unless it concerns my very specific question i asked.

Entire thread is irrelevant if you're just going to buy the stuff anyway.

Thanks for the condescending attitude, though.

Im not giving attitude nor is the thread irrelivent =/
I asked somthing specific where some one out there with experience has an answer... hell i bet even you could give the real answer to my question considering your sig rig has both the parts.

Forgive me if i dont want people telling me that my only hope is to buy a processor that hasnt even released real benchmarks or prices yet..

It's going to be faster, duh. If it weren't AMD is dead.

Anyways, from experience, AMD chips X6/whatever will bottleneck extreme setups. You'd be fine for a single card, but with BD coming... I'd wait if not for the price drops like you mentioned but to see how much faster BD will be.

Honestly, assuming this is a gaming machine, you should be looking at Sandy Bridge if you're buying RIGHT NOW. The Phenom x6's were great in their day. But Sandy Bridge wipes the floor with them, and its the same price.

You are fine and perfectly in your rights to ask for a specific answer to a specific question, and to respond appropriately when given a deviating response and postures of indignation at the denial of said response.

The 1090t vs 6950 bottleneck will vary depending on game, graphic strain, resolution, etc etc.

In all likelihood, overclock the CPU up to 3.6 or higher, with the NB @ 2.6 or higher, and your CPU bottleneck will be all but gone. Crossfire the 6950, you'll want to be higher (so I gather).

Regardless, you should be aiming for 4ghz on the 1090t, 3ghz on your NB, and as high as the 6950 will go.

There's no such thing as "no bottleneck" - just shifting the balance of power. Think of each component being a limitation on the other - your GPU SHOULD run faster when the CPU can pump more information to it, so from the top-down concept of information pathways in your PC, get the CPU as high as possible, as safe as possible, and then raise everything else up beneath that. There's no "magic number" per se, as it depends on the application and situation.

Sorry I couldn't give you EXACTLY the answer you were looking for, but the knowledge desired is contained within my response.'

**Edit** And yes, the people above are correct, Sandy Bridge would probably be better now, but if the pricing on Thuban's drops further with the release of BD, they'll be a wonderful pathway for the budget minded. An x6 @ 4ghz with its NB @ 3ghz is probably going to handle any game out for the next couple of years just fine. I'm throwing a 1090t in my rig when I can afford it for similar reasons ...
