I've been trying to make the jump to Windows 7 but apparently I can not think of a logical reason to do it. I have programs that will not function properly in the Windows XP (compatibility mode) of Windows 7 so I'm going back & forward about dual booting the original Win XP & Win 7. I'm still hesitating because there are not enough Direct X 10/11 games. I have new hardware (Sandy Bridge) and still running Win Pro XP. Am I alone in this situation?
Is there anybody still running Windows XP with their P55, X58, or P67 rig?

When you say "Windows XP mode", do you mean the compatibility mode, or that preset virtual machine they call "Windows XP Mode"?

Why is this relevant?

Anyway, I was hesitant to make the jump but it was completely worth it. It's much more polished than xp. Just do it, you wont regret it (probably not... lol).

I have found XP to be very clunky and slow compared to Windows 7. I use an XP machine daily at work and I hate it. I installed Windows 7 on a similar rig for my boss and it is much faster than XP in day-to-day tasks. My work computer has a Phenom II X2 550 w/ 4GB DDR2-800 and Seagate 320GB 7200.11 and his has a Phenom II X3 720 w/ 4GB DDR3-1333 and WD 640GB Black. There is a very noticeable difference between the two and I can guarantee you it's not the extra core, and I doubt it's the HDD.

Also, there is compatibility mode and there is XP mode. The compatibility mode is the method where you go to a shortcut's properties and place it in compatibility mode with an older version (this method doesn't work too well), but if you have Windows 7 Professional, there is XP mode which is an actual virtual machine which should run any program you need it to outside of games.

Oh. Then keep using XP until you can find suitable replacements.

Or, you can actually use Windows XP Mode.

Yeah...I will have to keep using XP. Autocad 2002/2006 will not run properly when using the Windows XP mode either (been trying to get that to work for over a week).

I think that Windows XP Mode could be an option:

Forget XP, move on, it's time! Once you start using it, you'll want nothing to do with xp again!
