IE9 and Firefox 4.0 Link Text ANNOYING!

Thread Starter
So, I downloaded IE9 and FF4.0 today. Very happy with both. I think IE9 still needs some work, but FireFox has pulled me back from Opera's very firm grasp. Opera lost me on it's own accord with it's recent DO NOT OPEN GMAIL crap. That and I like how the top of Firefox is very small. The menu is ingenious and Microsoft should have had their menu like that. It looks like a Microsoft Office type menu.

That said, there is one issue that is driving me crazy.

In IE9 and FF4.0 I see this text on the bottom left every time I slide over a link. Or when a webpage is loading, FireFox shows CONNECTING TO LOSER.

I mean, how do I get rid of that? It's so annoying. Also not fan of the middle button scrolling and how it doesn't cancel when I normal middle button scroll afterwards. Instead it sort of pops up and then back down.

Any ways I can fix these minor grievances? So glad FireFox has a nice Speed Dial now. That made my day and was the ultimate decision factor in my switch to FireFox 4.0 again. Even though I feel it slower than Opera still.

:edit: ALSO, is there a way to make the address bar do a Google search? Every time I type something in it, it brings me to some facemood powered page or some crap. It doesn't even type in what my search was. Annoying as heck!

Not sure we're seeing eye to eye. I don't WANT the status message. I don't want to see it. I don't want to put it on a toolbar. I want it gone. I don't know if that add on does that for me, but if I need an add on to get rid of that and it's not something simple like in options then hands down to firefox for that.

That addon allows you to move it, or completely remove it. As for the scrolling, not sure on how to change that. My address bar does a google search, always has. Maybe something to do with the default search engine?

For google search, type "g [search terms]". There is also an extension called "Omnibar" to make it like Chrome.
The top of my firefox is smaller than yours and this is even with the bookmarks bar enabled

I use Firefox 4 final and I don't get the bottom left text sliding over links.... must be you, or one of my addons deliberately prevents it? I think the behaviour is the same in browsers like Chrome though. It doesn't bother me whether it's there or not.

Addons you might like that'll solve your other issues:
Omnibar [combine address & search bar]
Smoothwheel [makes scrolling smooth and replaces default scrolling behaviour - might solve it for you;. I think disabling "use autoscrolling" in the advanced tab in firefox options will also do you good]

I also wrote an article about optimizing Firefox 4 performance lately, perhaps give it a whirl, try it, and see if it works for you?

Feel free to ask me if you like if you want to know about more awesome addons...

Tried that. It keeps bringing me to this stupid page. I don't even have facemood or whatever installed.

My Firefox is smaller than yours

I'll check out those add ons.

Like Omnibar. Installed.

The scrolling add on wasn't quite what I wanted. Thanks anyway.

It was supposed to work. I typed "g overclock" in the address bar, and it showed a google search of the term overclock.

Well Omnibar combines the search and address bar so all is good.

I measure 89 pixels height... for you I measure..... 65 pixels, awww you win But I would be winning by about 2 pixels if I disabled the bookmarks toolbar

Did you try the "Options > Advanced tab > General tab > Uncheck "use autoscrolling" thing I mentioned?

You'd probably like my theme actually - it's called MX3 and IMO gives Firefox a highly professional look with "small icons" enabled
I like the OS theme by the way. Ever tried moving the taskbar to the top? It may sound pretty stupid at first but why I did it is to keep everything near the top. As a result, my mouse moves less between the tabs, bookmarks bar, taskbar icons, etc. and I can multitask quite faster

I think you have to try that "g *search term*" thing after omnibar is installed. I rather think you should leave Firefox how it is though.... that would be a supermassive addressbar if you install omnibar... I don't know why, just seems quite wrong to me

Yup, I disabled the Autoscroll feature, but that just took away my scrolling with the middle button pressed down. That's not what I wanted. Best way to describe it is in Opera you can autoscroll, but as soon as you move the middle mouse button up or down it immediately cancels the autoscroll and lets you manual scroll. It's really nothing to cry over. I could just click left click and then manual scroll, but after years of having that habit, it's a bit missed, ya' know? Sometimes I would be just searching the internet and sliding up and down on my mouse wheel out of boredom. It became a habit.

As for the MX3. It looks exactly the same as the one I had only it was all white and had a tiny blue firefox button thing.

Didn't like it so I removed it. Was probably the exact same size, if not, then it was slightly...larger?

As for having to use "g search term" with Omnibar you don't. I also have no qualms with having an ultra long search bar. There's often times I can't read an entire address cuz they fill it with fluff like zflaza1271424?wqadfga-143234wth

Plus, just having search and address in one rather than to have to use the right one is a huge benefit. Honestly, I might not even be using FireFox 4.0 if Opera wasn't being retarded with gmail atm. I was so pleased with Opera in almost every way.

Gmail Manager is everything I wanted. I'll check out your tutorial on how to make firefox better now xd.

Seems I've solved all my problems I've run into on my own.
