Reccomend a good Cable Modem/Router

I am a Comcast subscriber. Can anyone recommend an all-in-one modem/wireless router like the Motorola Surfboard 6580 The one I one I have is stricken with connection problems. I am happy with the features, just not the performance. Any ideas?

You should get a cable modem for free from comcast. I would go with that and get your own router, as I have never had good experiences with the modem/router combos. These modems generally perform fine and if they have any problems you can take them to a local office and switch it out for another one. This gives you more money to spend on a router.

Also, whats your budget?

I have a really old modem. I guess I could have it switched out for a newer one from Comcast, but you don't buy modems from Comcast, you just rent - If you could buy I would imgine their prices sucking. I have been paying 10 bucks a month for a while to rent one so I wanted to buy a good one. Killing 2 birds with one stone, getting rid of the extra sub cost, and getting a better modem.

I have the Motorola DOCSIS 3. It has to be backwards compatable for today's technology because it is ready for the NEXT GEN STUFF. I love it. My netGear router is great. I have the one with wireless N. Very nice. And very good coverage all over the house.

The modem/router you linked is one of the best in that category, with all the bells and wistles. Personally, i like to keep that type of equipment separate in case one or the other is having issues.

The one you linked to is nice, but as others have said, having a dedicated modem with a separate router is the better option.
Much easier to trouble shoot if you have problems and you can replace one or the other if ever needed.

As for getting one the cable company provides, I got tired of paying $5/month rental for their cheap junk router so after 1.5 years ($90 in rental fees), I bought my Linksys CM100 Cable modem 3 years ago for $45. While only 2.0, it has already paid for itself, so whenever I have to get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, I will just buy another and still come out ahead.
