Ddr2 vs. Ddr3

Thread Starter
I currently have a ddr2 rig and was wondering if it was even worth keeping a backup computer with ddr2.. i am currently upgrading from an athlon 64x 2 to a athlon IIx4, and with it my current ram geil blackdragon 5-5-5-15 at 400mhz (stock), to corsair ripjaws 9-9-9-24. i know ddr3 runs faster timings at stock speeds but is it actually worth keeping this rig around for a little longer? maybe a server for some media or games? open for suggestions.

Being that I occasionally work on computers that still have DDR(1), I think DDR2 still has some life left in it.

Yea DDR2 is going to be around for awhile. Just think how many 775 setups there are with either Pentium IV's or the Core2Duo series, not to mention how many AMD setups are based on it.

Ah. What speed/timings? Anything short of 1600 CL9 wouldn't be an improvement

It's a good kit. You could potentially save $5 and go with this kit. Like the Ripjaws it also has some proven overclocking potential.
