Kill-a-watt... uh.....

Thread Starter
So I just bought a kill-a-watt to see how much my equipment draws. According the meter, Im only drawing ~300 Watts while playing BFBC2. And yes, SLI is enabled. I have 3 monitors also hooked up, but only one is being used for gaming. Sig rig is what Im using...

Uh...what? Is this accurate?
I'd say it's defective. Even with the inaccuracy from aPFC it would only be off by ~15%, and this is more like ~70% off.
Do a prime 95 torture test and occt gpu test running at the same time and tell us what the meter says.
just for giggles.
It is WAY off of my power draw, that's for sure. My rig alone (no monitors no peripherals) breaks 1 kw in games (confirmed at the wall by my APC BBU).

Would be good to look at what percent your gpu is taxed at as well as your cpu while playing. BUT - you might be finding out what many do - Power supplies bought are usually MUCH larger than needed.

But yeah - That does sound low.

With my crossfire setup I draw 2 hunny some I think.

EDIT - I should recheck that - I may be thinking of my old setup with 1 8800 gts and a 3800x2 chip

Either you have 480's binned from pure Awesome-Stone, or that Kill-A-Watt meter is a little liar.

Just one of your 3 Asus monitors can pull 40-50W easily. So, ~300W for total system power consumption while gaming seems low.

What is the idle power usage?

Try this simple test: plug a lamp with its light bulb(s) wattage known and see if it displays a close figure.

I think it is time to return it to the store for a refund or replacement.
And, before this, try resetting with the RESET button (if your model has one).
Also, if your model supports the Wattage history feature, find out that figure for the entire gaming period.

Try plugging 1 or two 100watt light bulbs in it to test it.

You sure you've got it in the correct mode?

These are my single 480 numbers.
And I can tell you that my kill a watt displayed 1200w during an sli furmark run, psu shut down BTW.
