They are pretty much on par with each other. Read the other reviews, they're everywhere now. Hard to tell who is the real king atm.

From temps/noise it looks like you may be able to squeeze some more power out of this card over the 6990.

seems like this round the pro GTX 4XX/HD5XXX arguments are about to switch sides.

"i'd rather have a slower card than go deaf/burn to death".

I'd suggest the majority of you read Tom's...While the 590 does lose, it sacrifices the jet engine to do so .

The 590 also loses in the guru3d review

And meh, 3 reviews now, the dBA difference is like what 5?

And it couldn't even overclock!

The card in the TPU review blew up

Funny thing is, the reviewers probably aren't using the 6990's OC mode switch. Not as far as I've seen, at least.
Well I think a lot of people seen this coming (you know the people who argued it would not win with the confirmed clocks) versus the zealots who refused to listen.

Obviously Nvidia knew also so they tried to create other strengths, like low noise and decent power consumption and temps. Good job I say.

Although I have to wonder why release this card in the first place if it was not going to be able to take the crown from ATI.

Also can you sli the 590 with a 580 or 570?
this is the 6990 at stock settings.
Wow card blew up in techpowerup's review. And W1zzard said that some other reviewers had the same issue. Guess we will not find its true potential of the card since we hit a hardware wall.
Anyway nothing Ln2/dice-ers should worry about, also water can solve this problem, and possibly non-reference gtx590s in the futur.
liking evga "classified" card:

Edit: just as i said , though obvious, 6990 is fps king...590 bench king.

is there something wrong with tom's hardware review for the 590....why the reviews are so differentiating....590 is getting different results in different reviews...but in most of the reviews HD6990 stays on top...but in tom's hardware GTX590 review it stays on top of HD6990 by miles...

also in tom's hardware review in some cases HD6990 in stock clocks tops the HD6990 in 880mhz...there's something fishy....
