Their open box deals are US only so I'd have to buy it through some middle man who could get it shipped to their place and then to canada.

This seems to be a strange but nonetheless interesting card. Its out-of-the-box performance is on par with what the HD5970 was compared to dual HD5870s, i.e. on par with the performance of dual second-tier cards as opposed to dual top-tier cards.

With regard to the cards blowing up...well, nVidia probably envisaged the card being clocked up to GTX570 levels (732MHz) or perhaps up to GTX580 levels (772MHz). The former would leave it right between the top two cards, while the latter would give basically GTX580 SLI on a single card.

However, since GTX580s can also be overclocked, they will always be beyond what a GTX590 can achieve, and that probably rings true even under water. I suspect that the overvolt failures might not directly be due to heat, but due to the too-high voltage causing the component(s) to fail and short, since the circuitry should have thermal shutdown capability.

Obviously the overvolt protection isn't working - is 1.2V common when overclocking GPUs?

The performance of the stock clocked GTX 590 isn't all that spectacular but the temps are not too bad, also it's 5db quieter than a 6990.

Only problem I have with it is that it's not listed as a step up option through EVGA. :sadpanda:

I am disappoint.

This card just isnt worth it. If you want the best single card go 6990. If you want raw power go sli 580 gtx. Please don't waste your money on the 580 gtx though.

Do you expect anything different from that scenario?

Dare you to try that with a 6990 and youtube it, too.

EVGA did some pure evil to my friend, refusing to step up his 470 because he bought it 6 hours(yes you read that right) too early.

cut off was the 15th of december, he got it the night of the 14th. they even told him how many hours he was denied by.

HD6990 LOL...at least that card doesn't have those issues except that jet engine sound...but compared to this its tolerable EVEN 6990 was able to hit 1ghz CORE with fans on 100% no burnouts*

whatever 590 is slowly turning out to be dissapointment even Tech power Up blew up their card OCing 590...

u r buying a friggin 700$ card but u r limited...

amd put everything whatever they could on their card....but nvidia...firstly its downclocked and OCing it literally blows it!!

NCIX has theirs in stock, much higher prices than Tiger Direct though
http://ncix.com/search/?categoryid=0&q=gtx+590

Those are Canadian prices, and they are more than the US prices, eventhough the Canadian dollar is worth MORE right now.

The AMD Fanboys are going to have a field day with a card blowing up on beta drivers, and stock fan speeds.

Oh well, let them enjoy it, I know it's been rough for them being 2nd best since the 580 came onto the scene, this is their moment of glory. LOL

There are much better alternatives than the Jet engines of the 6990, and even a 590 for that matter. We'll see as time goes by if that card blowing up is an isolated incident.

For the people who say the 6990 hit 1000 MHZ, that's all fine and dandy, but how loud was it? 90DB!

It was great that we achieved 1GHz on both cores on our Sapphire sample, but considering we had to run the fan at 100% which generated in excess of 90 dB of noise, we understand that it's hardly a feasible option for most people.

ALL Nvidia has to do is drop the price of the 580 to $400 - $449 and make it more competitive.

I bet they would've been better off going with 570 chips instead, while adding more RAM.

Even the 570s blow up sometimes. As long as you don't use 1.212V and Furmark them.
