So they killed it with temps and not via the VRMs like the 570s? If thats the case, then this changes things quite a bit.

Were the temps shown right before it blew? If they fried it because they disregarded the temps than its their own fault.

Once again this debacle is quite simply down to a lack of testing, testing, testing. nVidia must have known that people will "overclock" this card back to GTX570 SLI or GTX580 SLI clock speeds - or further. They really should have tested the card at those settings and made sure it was solid, even if they then decided to ship it at GTX470 frequencies.

Also, I wouldn't get hung up on nVidia clock speeds compared to ATi clock speeds. The two architectures are different enough that the clock speeds do not translate directly between the two.
