I'm really curious about the pricing now that it seems they have 'failed' in taking the 6990's title. I think nVidia might just shoot itself in the foot by introducing it at a price far too high.

The performance crown is decided based on stock performance because of the variation in people's max OCs... and the 6990 has won that. Now considering the name of these forums, how will it OC?

Well thinking about the fact that with the same 4+1 power design the average 570 @ stock volts clocks to about 820Mhz... I think the 590 will be about 715Mhz-735Mhz max on air with a really good PSU that can handle 200+ watts (out of spec) through each 8 pin. That may be enough to beat a 6990 @950MHz
We'll see.

Of course, all bets are off if you put either of these cards under water and start upping the volts...

No reason for this to be cheap at launch as the GTX 570 is pretty darn expensive as it is
hahaha

Lets hope they ain't done goofed. Consequences will never be the same.

O RLY?

6950s are better and cheaper than 6990 and OC more(and also include a warranty for OCing unlike 6990s, except lolXFX).
570 beats out the best 6970.
Single 560 woops a 6990 in OpenCL.

Even a 560 beats it in 1080p BC2. 470 beats it at 2560x1600 BC2.

570s beat the 6990 in Battleforge, HAWX, CIV5, Dirt2(even the 560s), Mass Effect 2, Wolfenstein, Alien Vs Pred, Metro 2033, CoD6, Just Cause 2, Batman, BC2, 3DMark Vantage/11 and Unigine Heaven.

590 > 6990

Just hope it's not $200 more.

dude since when do we compare AMD and NVIDIA video card based on their clock speed... everybody know that NVIDIA usually have lower clock speed but hey the GTX 580 (797) still > 6970 (880)
i hold my faith in Nvidia to get the job done in the end. We'll see what happens, though....

Nobody is doing that. We are comparing 612mhz to the 580@ stock (772mhz) and noticing that it is a 20% downclock in core speed. Take about 20% off of 580 SLI scores and see what you get...

By how much, other than Dirt 2 and the CIV/BC2 graphs you posted (all games of which are known to suck on AMD cards and are addressed in the current 11.4 drivers) I'll bet you all the rest of the games you listed there the 6990 is within 2-3% of 570 SLI. And the 590 will be SLOWER than 570 SLI.

The memory clock is low too.

The GTX590's memory clock is 3420Mhz, according to the OP. The GTX580's stock memory speed is 4008Mhz.
The GTX570, for comparison is 3800Mhz.
