Not different then only Palit and Gainward (and maybe eVGA soon) doing 3Gb 580. So you have to choose a manufacturer with Nvidia cards since some are better then others and offering enough VRAM, instead of the other manufacturers offering the POS 1.5Gb vanilla version. Same thing with AMD and the 6990. Choose the better manufacturers.
Read the post completely before answering. I said I'm waiting for my 6990 waterblock before going higher. It was just for fun, with stock cooler on. I got the card last friday. I'm already at 1000/1400 with my 6990 and 6970, while some 6970 don't even go that high. Yes, that's true. Read around. Some 6970 are not able to reach 1000. Luck of the draw. But 6990 are hand-pick low leaking chips, so they can go higher than alot of 6970 on the market.
Not impressive. LOL. I installed the card 3 days ago. Just wait and see for results with a waterblock. And since there is not a single waterblock for the 6990 around yet, what you're saying is an assumption, and not a fact. You don't have clue if the 6970 OC higher then the 6990. An opinion, not a fact. Wait for the waterblocks before posting your opinion like it's a fact. You put ''6970 OC higher'' in bold, but you don't know that, since we just got the cards, and don't have any waterblocks for it.
People using a 6990 or 590 with stock cooler should be beaten with sticks for their stupidity.
Again, I'm not alone. There is also other end-users with 6990 saying the same thing about the noise of the card on another site. Read around. Even Guru3d said some noise-level measurements on other ''established'' review sites sounded fishy and were not done properly. Go read it.
Believe me, I have one. I'm not a reviewer with an agenda. The 6990 is ok. Not worst then the jet-engine on the 5970 and not worst then the 2 jet -engines on 2 580 in SLI.
