[Various] All Pre-NDA GTX590 Threads - Page 36

I'm amazed at the number of people definitively saying the GTX 590 will be faster or slower than the 6990. The truth is we won't know until we actually see it in action. It won't be 100% confirmed that the specs floating around are correct until then. I know I'm on the fence between a 590 and 580 depending on the price and overclockability of the 590. I'm not going to jump the gun and make my choice until its put through its paces by a credible source.

Think about it. They both just released there top end cards not long ago. All was good. And then they thought. Hmmmm. Let's not think of something new and just put 2 gpu onto one card but turn it down so we dont get I'n trouble. We will make massive $$ with leftover parts.

I'm done now. Have no idea what i am talking about really but it sounds good I'n my head.

Unit... it would be a good line of thought if it wasn't for one thing ... GF110's in the GTX590 will be "cherry picked" for low leakage, low vid ...

So, i don't really believe we're talking about "left overs" here

Nah ... none ... i only know that it will be competitive priced against 6990 ...
Maybe they will go "crazy" and release a sub 700Eur card
post #356 of 1505
Just a wild thought ...
every one is talking about using cherry picked GF110's ... but ...
If they downclock the gpu's to 612Mhz ... what's the supposed "voltage" it will be needed to run the GPU? Anyone with a GTX580 that can make that test?

Maybe "cherry picking" gpu's with lower core speeds isn't needed at all?
I'm just thinking about the 1000 cards worldwide that i really think it's a lie...

Maybe if they would like to run 772Mhz and needed really cherry picked gpu's for that... and not being able to do so, they just donwclocked the damn thing?

Just making wild guesses ... i don't believe that someone will launch 1000 video cards to a worlwide market anxious for this product ... because if so, they will sell it ah "Mars" prices ...

I mean... 2 x GTX560Ti Sli @ 900Mhz will be almost as quick as this thing if it comes with the 600 clocks... what's weird....

These arguments are irrelevant. Each card will have it's own following and will excel in their own categories, just as their little brothers are.

Not at all. The drivers for AMD might be good for the 6990 now, but what happens when the 6990 is considered old news about a year or two later and AMD stops supporting it all together like they do with every video card they make it seems?
4870x2 they stopped all together releasing drivers to help it, and when they released a driver that BROKE ALL THE CARDS by disabling the second core - it took them 3-4 months to fix it because they were so caught up with the newer cards and fixing their problems. Not saying you should expect drivers for older cards all the time, but when they release a driver that borks them and it takes a considerable amount of time to fix - it makes a person wonder why the bug actually popped up when it did when they weren't even releasing drivers for it anymore.... Interesting no?

i have a new found joy in playing pc games without any glitches.
That argument just supported what he said entirely. Why would you do that if you disagree with him? Your "old" cards had tons of driver problems. So you buy two new cards worth $800 just to do the same thing again but just because they're top of the line now just like your "old" cards were? It makes no sense.

Don't need to. The fact that 3x 570s beats a 6990+6970 already does.

If you want to compare 3 6970s, then compare them to cards that are equally as powerfull and/or slightly higher for similar pricing. $330 570 > 6970.

Not only does it perform better in games, it has PhysX, better Tessellation, CUDA>Stream, better OpenCL and usable 3D Vision.
The 6970 can only play games and does it with sub-par Tessellation and lack of PhysX. If you're looking to do 3D gaming, good luck finding a monitor that supports it.

They excel at keeping Nvidia prices down. I gotta hand them that.

Anyone hear anything about the GTX 590 being delayed until the 24th? I've seen it floating around but nowhere credible.
