cherry-picking specific benchmarks to prove one card is superior to another ftw!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

So read up next time you make a claim that it "copies" physx and isn't "on par".
That's right, it isn't. It's nice though since you don't have to have an Nvidia gpu. GPUs just handle physics a lot faster right now. It's no where "way better" in anything at the moment though. Maybe in 5+ years when 12 core CPUs become common place it won't matter anymore.

It hardly sucks, but nice try.
Havok is doing great things but right now its visual benefits aren't on par yet.
Gamers don't care about encoding the video of their fraps faster. Yeah, ok.
Full Tessellation will be out in games this year. Want something that will last you 1-2 years?
No mention of 3D in there though, I wonder why.

The troll requested "proof of the BS" OpenCL difference. Specific benchmark was provided.
You have any other areas you'd like to request? FPS, 3D, anything?

Wow, just wow. Would you please get a clue, before you start posting? First and foremost, Civ5 uses DirectCompute, not OpenCL. It's a different discussion altogether, don't even go there before doing some research.

And smallluxgpu beta... ... There's a 6970 above both 560 and 6990 and you didn't notice, didn't draw conlusions, huh? That's one algorithm, where AMD doesn't do so good so far, and apparently that's enough to draw conlcusions about all of Radeons' OpenCL capabilites. You are an awesome analytic, indeed.

Cuda, Tesselation, PhysX, 3D are useless technologies...
So useless that they're copied in different forms(ATI,Havok)
Copied? Did you say copied? As in, nVidia were first to do it? History lesson for you.

AMD CTM (Close to Metal, which later turned into Stream) : November 2006
First CUDA SDK release: March 2007.

Havok Introduction: Game Developers Conference in 2000.
NovodeX SDK (which was bout by AGEIA, which was bought by nVidia in 2008) : somwhere around 2002-2003. One of the developers writes:

NovodeX is a brand new Swiss company involved in game development technology. They provide services similar to MathEngine and Havok.

So who is copying who? I won't even mention the fact that till 2010 CPU PhysX used obsolote (for over 5 years ) x87 instructions. It still doesn't have proper (vectorized) SS2 support. And then you go and say GPU perform better... way to go!

Wow, just wow. There was two screenshots posted. L2read.

No one said they were copied directly from Nvidia. They are copied as in, they are in both areas. They duplicate functions yet they're somehow "useless" to some people. way to go!

Just because Nvidia has better cards right now, no one needs to feel offended for AMD. The second another 5870/4870 type of card is released ATI will be king again. Hopefully their next set of GPUs in 2012 and FX series CPUs being released in June will bring back the fire.

when did i say either card was better? oh wait, i never did. stop toking so much, it's affecting your reading skills.

i'm actually excited to see the results of the 590. i might buy one of those as well. and fyi, i did wait to buy the 6990 until all the benches for it were released. and i quite enjoy it!

you made a valid point, and i agree with you. nvidia really does shine in this area without a doubt. but, this is what the same article you posted the two tests from had to say about the 6990 after you get past the two graphs:

"Ultimately the take-away from this is that for most desktop GPU computing workloads, the benefit of multiple GPU cores is still unrealized. As a result the 6990 shines as a gaming card, but is out of its element as a GPU computing card unless you have an embarrassingly parallel task to feed it."

i don't need proof of anything in any other areas, since i've read most, if not all, the 6990 reviews.

and 3d isn't totally out of the picture for amd gpu's: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/rad...d3d,12403.html

Hopefully we can get AMD's 3D along side Nvidia's on the same monitor. It would suck having to buy a monitor and then being stuck with one or the other brand. Crysis 2 in 3D looks amazing btw.

You lost me there. I mentioned both Civ5 and SmallLuxGPU in my post. L2read yourself.

You lost me again. I thought you were pro PhysX and CUDA? Sure, they are useless for some people, I am not one of them tough. CUDA is currently the best GPGPU platform and I got use for that. Most people don't. CUDA on the consumer market is also dying slowly btw.

I bet most people don't even realize what they are actualy using in their game or program. Examples:

- some people don't realize Civ 5 uses Direct Compute, not OpenCL *ahem*
- some people don't realize Bullet SDK is used for GTA4 and 3d Mark 11.
- some people don't realize Havok is used in Starcraft2 and will be soon available for Android systems.
etc.

I agree, but this isn't also the reason to spread lies about the slightly weaker cards.

Just wanted to add a little something to the "don't realize".

People don't realize that many many TWIMTBP games feature HAVOK.
Isn't it ironic, dontcha think?
