I said a GTX 580 in SLI has already been tested at the stock clock speeds of the GTX 590 and the results were that it was noticeably slower than a Radeon HD 6990. If we were talking that this card is close to the reference clock speed of the GTX 580, then it would be much closer in performance. The fact that this card's Core clock is 16% slower, its Shader clock is 27% slower, and its Memory clock is 17% slower is gonna seriously limit its performance.

Like I said earlier, I expect it to be overall the same speed as a GTX 570 SLI.

Going to use your name to explain how I feel about your post...LOL WUT?

The 6990 is maxed due to it's bios...Nvidia cherry picked the cores + they're underclocked...Care to try again?

is it not odd that the 3dmark vantage is so much higher than the other benches

I said a majority of people, not everyone. Sure there are people who invest up front rather than upgrading later and on the other end of the spectrum you have people upgrading after every release. The average upgrade time depends on the community. But this is besides the point. I was mostly making the case that HardOCP isn't useless for everyone. If it doesn't help you, move on there are plenty of other review sites for your resolutions. But for people who have multiple monitors it might be the best site to give them insight on how the card performs with their setup.

Oh gotta love all the assumptions.

And I guess I'm one of the guys that waste these style of cards on a 100$ monitor.

Either way I can't wait for these to hit the market, have been sitting on a few pennies so I can pounce asap.

All cards have good and bad points, but I think the GTX 590 under water will be just fine. cool.gif

I do wish Review sites would start doing more 3D benchmark reviews.

The HD 6970 is slower then the GTX 580, all the benches from when the 6970 first came out prove that. It seemed when the 6990 was released all of a sudden people were trying to say the 6970 competed with the 580, most reviews of the 6970 pit it against the 570. Even in metro 2033 at 2560x1600 the 580 is 8-10% faster then the 6970 and there are very few situations where the 2gb of vram on the 6970 make a difference, usually on on extreme resolutions does the 6970 gain on the 580. I would say the slides are fairly accurate myself, it's fairly logical. The 590 will be faster then the 6990, period. Look at the benches Tom's did on the 6970, it needs much faster clocks to gain on the 580. Link

Ok, so in the benchmark, how fast is the 590 going at and is turbo mode on?? Also isn't futuremark owned by nvidia and would pcmark11 would be a better comparison between cards?

Here's the problem with your argument: one, you're assuming that it can OC as well as a GTX 580 on the stock cooler, which I doubt. Second, we're talking about stock performance. I never made a reference to the 6990's over-clocked profile. Given that a GTX 580 SLI at 590 clock speeds is slower than a Radeon HD 6990, this is gonna be slower stock. We don't know how this is gonna OC, so that argument is invalid.

Care to try again?
