I'm basing this on facts. The GTX 590 has two GTX 580 GPUs on a single PCB, and a GTX 580 SLI benchmarks at GTX 590 speeds have already been posted. The difference between having them in SLI or on the same PCB is less than 1%.
The two 580 gf110 gpu's are heavilly downclocked on the same pcb not only to keep cooling in check but also power consumption. So how can the 590 run at within 1% of 580 sli levels ??
Now if you said the 590 is on par with gtx 570 sli levels i would most likely agree with you, As for gtx 580 sli levels i think i just saw a pig fly past my window
