Try it even if it is old, b/c if it works then you know your new monitor is defective.

sorry what is a input button? does all lcd monitors have that? mine only has menu, left and right arrow, and power, and audio/set but none of the buttons do anything when i press them only the menu button works.

it just keeps on saying "going into power save mode" and shuts off like its on standby mode with lights flickering on and off.

oh when i dont connect to the pc, it says looking for dsub or dvi connection

Usually, input buttons are located right next to the power button. Like in the picture below, the second button from the right.
