My monitor won't connect to my new pc! (1st build ever)

Thread Starter
Hey I recently attempted to build my first gaming pc ever and everything went smooth (correct wires, installing gpu, processor, hdd, etc) but when i went to turn it on, i noticed my [LG] W2361VZ-PF (23in) monitor won't connect itself to the pc.

My GPU is 460gtx 1gb and there are 2 6pins at the end. However, i plugged both 6pins with my psu's 6pin connector and still, the monitor is blank. It says its going into power saving mode and i even switched to D-Sub (after trying DVI about 10 times) and it still won't recognize the GPU. I dont have any onboard graphics so what can i do?

Did anyone else have this dilemma when building? Everything is okay except for the monitor not displaying the pc.

Do i have to use both molex to 6pin connectors i got when i bought the 460gtx or cant i just use the power supplys 6pin connectors? (there actually 8pin but you can take off 2pin and make it 6pin...does that matter?)

I tried everything but the dam monitor won't connect itself with my gpu so i cant get any picture on the monitor!!!!!!

any solutions? i welcome all!

How many watts is the power supply?

You should be able to use your PSU 6pin connectors no problem. Are you sure you have plugged in any and all power cables into your mother board? 24pin and 4/8pin cpu power connectors. Does the fan on ur GPU start up at all when u power up your PC?

At this point it could be any number of things, most likely trouble with the graphics card getting power or communicating with the motherboard. Listing your system hardware would be helpful here

I had a similar problem on a build I did for a friend, turned out the cpu was incompatible with the motherboard... check compatibility!

yes every single fan is on when i turn on the computer even the gpu fans (2x)

so what does that mean? everything is on except the monitor won't connect to the gpu.

the psu has 8pin connectors but i can take off 2pin and make it 6pin. does that matter at all? can i still use the 8pin minus 2 to make it 6pin like it was a reglular 6pin?

First thing, double check to make sure all components are correctly seated and all necessary cables are plugged into the right spots. We all miss stuff sometimes

If all components and cables are in check, try to find the problem.
Do you have any other hardware you can use to rule out faulty components? Do you have any other power supply, graphics card, RAM etc. to test in your new setup? Can you try the graphics card in a different motherboard?

Wait you're running SLI 460s on a 500w PSU? 500w is the minimum for a single 460.

yes i can try on different gpu but its crap but it can still work right?

also on my gtx 460, when i connect the 8pin (6pin) cables to the gpu, shouldn't it power up? does that mean the psu does not have enough watt to power the gpu?

i used the cables from the psu which has 2 8pin (6pin) connectors extra so i put them in the gpu and it should connect with the monitor but doesnt!! so i dont get it? i tried both dvi and dsub and still nothing
