This is the biggest question. The problem here is that any app that is allowed on the store is essentialy a statement from Apple saying that they condone it. There have been several apps rejected due to their nature and this should have been one of them, just as the app where you "shook" the baby to stop it from crying. Neither of them should have made it to the store.

Not sure if condone is the word I want to use but am drawing a blank currently on anything better.

THIS IS NOT A MATTER OF FREE SPEECH! It is a touchy matter but those freedoms were written a very long time ago and do not account for all the mediums available today. Also having an app as this available in a public place that you can see without actively searching for it can be offensive and as such shouldn't be allowed. This is not an easy thing to try and set standards for what is and is not acceptable through media but a standard needs to be set regardless. Certain things are just not acceptable. With gay rights being such a hot topic, we need to be especialy carefull in what we allow to be said and happen as the unintended effect can be huge.

I bet there would be a huge uproar if Apple closed a homosexual related application.

Also this thread violates TOS of overclock in every way
I'd like to see that considering I was trained not to be hypocritical.

Plus since I made no real stance on this.... I made a argument against the whole "This is bad" belief, but that is not a real stance on this.

There is no such thing as freedom of speech, there is always consequences for your words and actions, but let's get down on this.

OK, I don't want to get in a religious debate, mainly because of the whole no freedom of speech here, or anywhere. Although I will say one does not have to have a high intelligence to find "Conflicts" and "bigotry" in that book....

Realize that this app was pulled because it was seen as offensive, I am sure I already explained this.

Not sure if you guys know but Apple supports gay marriage and supports gay people.

I'm not sorry for saying that people who think there is something wrong with gay people, spiritually, mentally, or physically, They are different.. that's all.

I am not hypocritical, I actually have taken two sides on this issue. One that it should be left as a wake up call, and one that it's apples right to remove things like this, and it is not the same as removing a pro gay app.

Next thing you know I will be labeled for not supporting anti-gay, while I support gay.

---

I seriously don't see the hypocrisy, because I never researched the app.

Do I need to? The bible remains the same... I have been exposed by these people all of my life, I have never seen a person say "Fags are bad" in a good way.

Tell you what though... I'm always supportive of people trying to prove their views, you find me that app, which has been pulled. I will download it and put it on my ipod. I will mess with it and hit you back.

But please note the only stance I have made is that pulling a anti-gay app, is not like pulling a gay app.

There is reasons they shouldn't of done this, and reasons they should of.

None of those reasons are the "right" reason.

Have a great day.

Yep, this pretty much.
Because its almost like a double standard where saying everyone's equal but some people are more equal than others. Pro gay apps do not try to convince that straight people are wrong for x or y reasons. Whereas the anti-gay ones do. The main reason for this being unacceptable to have an app like this is that it is supporting prejudiced ideas.
It is something you cannot change, you are born this way. It is like having a "How to not be Black" app. I am bisexual and personally I really don't care for these apps, I would just gloss over them and just think its funny. It is slightly offensive though, that people think that straight is 'cured' and gay is 'sick'. Why is straight the 'cured'? Why is being gay 'uncured'?

Basically, prejudice thoughts/acts/apps/w.e are bad and we need to try to get modern society to get as close to a unified and unprejudiced society as possible.

real Christians don't do that to homosexuals. people like those at the Westboro church are a disgrace and fall into the same category as the false prophets mentioned in Revelation. basically there's a special place in Hell for them.

there's nothing wrong with you being gay HappyDave. I won't tell you to stop or anything as it's none of my business, it's between you and God, even if you're an atheist. But you shouldn't demand our children be "educated" on homosexuality, and nobody, I mean NOBODY, should tell a child he/she is gay especially a teacher or parent. You raise your boy as a boy and girl as a girl, but if they decide they're gay later in life so be it.

you people(the media included) shouldn't demonize those who try to help homosexuals who no longer want to live that lifestyle. they're doing it out of love, and it makes you no different than those Westboro people.

I would burn it on video and post it on YouTube. Then tell Jobs he can shove his entire app store where the sun doesn't shine.

Ok, I lied. I would sell it. But I still wouldn't buy any Apple products with the money!

But getting back OT, I hate Apple but I am glad that they have the decency to remove any anti-gay or racist apps. I do not like the fact that they remove apps that offer purely political opinion that do not include any form of hate-mongering.

I understand that you guys probably come from the states probably where you have all the fundamentalists messing up your lives. Here people generally stay out of other people's business, and try to accept the other person's point of view. We learned that the hard way after 15 years of civil war.

I have no problem with people thinking that homosexuality is wrong as long as they are respectful of other people's lifestyles, don't tread over their rights and are willing to discuss it in a civilized manner. Calling homosexuality an illness and calling gay people 'fags' are two entirely different things. I do feel sad that people would consider it an illness, but it's their opinion. They are entitled to it just as I am to mine.

Believe it or not there are a lot of Christians who want to cure the "illness" out of good will. A mother who's son is gay, etc... Not all Christians are bible thumpers. If the app resembled the former, then it would be hypocritical to find it offensive and wanting it to be taken down. If resembled the latter, well then I do agree with you.

Also this isn't just about gay or not gay. This applies to things in general. I'm tired of people bashing other people's rights just because they find them offensive.
People will always find other things offensive. It's in our nature, we're not all the same. If we're going to ban things because some people find it offensive, we'll wind up with nothing.

Yeah right. I live in the heart of Philadelphia. We have a very large and openly gay community here. Some of my closest friends growing up and even now are gay, so I am far more sympathetic to their cause than most Americans.

Respect is a relative term here too.

I am familiar with various claimed "cures" for homosexuality, and by and large, their proponents honestly think they are helping people.

However, it's still no different from offering a cure for being black, or Christian, or anything else. Most non-self-loathing people of any particular group, background, or creed do not feel they need to be "cured" and will find suggestions to the contrary highly offensive, no matter how they are presented.

I personally wouldn't have pulled the app, regardless of how offensive I found it. However, I would allow all sorts of things Apple would never dream of.

My point was that Apple is not making any claims to freedom of expression. Theirs is a proprietary service that they have complete control over. They will offer or remove content as they please, in response to what they think is the general consensus of their customers.

Wow, really? So for however million years or so the earth has been around, with people on it, all of those gay cave-men thought that everyone else was really weird. Yeah, sure. There were no gay people since the beginning of time/creation. It only started to be a problem in the 1960s or so.

I seriously don't see the hypocrisy, because I never researched the app.
Really? Like a hate crime? A straight person can call a gay person a name, and he will get a hate crime, but if a gay person calls a straight person a name, he won't get a hate crime would he? I can see hypocrisy.

But please note the only stance I have made is that pulling a anti-gay app, is not like pulling a gay app.
That would be some hyprocrisy.

You also wrote something in your original post that you've now edited out. You said something like "Right now freedom of speech doesn't matter in this world because we have different problems" something like that. If thats your idea, why don't we just go get the deceleration of independence, and the constitution, and go burn them in a fire. You know, they don't really matter now, so.

Have a nice day.

It's been like this in America for decades. The minority ALWAYS has the upper-hand.
