Help overclocking Phenom II X6 1055t

Thread Starter
Hello,

First of all here are my spec.:

Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H rev2.2
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @ 2.8Ghz with Zalman CNPS10X Performa
2 Types of Ram "Hynix 2x2GB 1333Mhz, Kingston 2x2GB 1333Mhz
PSU High-Link 350W
Without Graphics Card

I can reach 3.4Ghz simply by increasing FSB only.

When I try to reach 3.6Ghz without increasing the vCore it doesn't open at all, When I try to increase it simply by 0.025 I face problems such as sounds, freezes, red artifacts all over the screen.

Honestly talking, I'm not an expert at OC'ing but I will be glad if I reached 4Ghz.

BTW, Temps are 17c at idle, 32c at extreme load

Hope to find help here from experts.

Note: After OC'ing to 3.4Ghz without increasing the Voltages at all I get error in Prime95 in one worker, Error is:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4

When you OC via the FSB you essentially overclock everything:

RAM
HT-Link
CPU-NB

By just increasing everything would not help, at first try to increase the cpu freq alone and by using the multipliers for the parts listed above, try to keep them as close to stock as possible. Your 350watt psu may become a problem as you start pushing past 3.6ghz though, if I were you i would replace that with atleast a good quality 500watt unit.

Just for reference, you can OC the cpu-nb but the HT-Link, try to keep that close to stock, you will only get instability for little or no performance boost, CPU freq, CPU-NB and RAM is where the power is at.

Also...that mixture of RAM could be a pitfall...try OC'ing with one stick first, or get a 2nd stick of either one of the modules i would say go with the kingston

Tried now with your advises and notes, Successfully OC'ed to 3.6Ghz with the configuration attached.

Didn't increase the Voltage, What's your next notes and advises about reaching 4Ghz ?

I don't have any PCI-E Card

BTW, Stressing by Prime95 didn't give an error and temps under 30c

Waiting your notes to reach the 4Ghz

Everything looks good so far...keep on the route, but run a stress test in between OC increasing i suggest LinX it gets errors within minutes what could take prime 95 atleast an hour to get. To get to 4ghz you will definitely have to increase the cpu voltage...or maybe you got a golden chip and it maybe able to run 4ghz at stock voltage, more than likely a volt increase will have to come, between 1.4 - 1.5v seem to be the sweet spot for getting to 4ghz on the chip.

Even if you can't get to 4ghz, the real aim should be a 1ghz overclock, so get to 3.8ghz stable first then push from there.

Reached now 3.81Ghz, with increasing the CPU Voltage to 1.4, Finally 1Ghz OC

Benched by CineBench, Temps gone 35c, I scared about LinX what it started to work I heard a voice coming out from the CPU, Sounds like its burning so I shutted it immediately

I've limited also the PCI-E to 100Mhz but now the screen have something like artifacts but not is, It seems that It hasn't all the power also its light is less than it used to.

What to do you think about allf of that and what's the next step ?

Humm...that screen problem is a new one for me..but for linx or any stress test, just keep your eye on the temps, i would still recommend linx and run the problem and memory size to the max.

As for the artifacts on the screen it maybe related to the onboard vga and the powersupply not doing its job, as i said before, beyond 3.6ghz with that psu maybe a dangerous thing especially now as you are increasing the voltage.

Next step i would say is to bring up the CPU-nb multiplier and get that frequency up to about 2600-2800mhz the safe cpu-nb voltage is the same as the processor 1.55v

@amd-dude I've tried LinX, Make it work 3 times, In the 3rd time I get a power off immediately, Tried to power on again with no luck, Disattached the PSU, Removed the MOBO Battery, Turn them back after 1 Minute, All up now, Why do you think that happend ?

Is it becasue weak PSU as you said or another thing ?
