i don't expect mask to find out on his card but i'd love to know if it's just too much volts or the heat that is making the handful of cards go. from everything i've seen the heat is the same as the 470/480 once overclocked.

Actually, I've heard trifire and quadfire (to an extent) scales pretty good with the 6XXX series. Though, I do agree with the tri-SLI part as I've seen the 'issues' with this first hand with a friend's setup.
My trifire is running Minecraft pretty awesome.
