Will 2 set of 3x4gb triple channel ram work?

Hi guys im trying to accomplish 24gb of ram for 3d rendering, video rendering on after effects. My mobo is sabertooth x58 which supports triple channel with 6 dimm slots. Now i found this cheap 12gb 3x4gb 1600mhz gskill triple channel memory way cheaper than corsair dominator so what i wanted to do is buy 2 set of those. I wonder if that would work, will i end up 24gb? and still triple channel? will my transfer rate slow down or any disadvantage?

Im running win7 64bit, i have this experience before when my rig is q8400 and mobo is gigabyte g31m-es2c 4 slots i bought 2 identical dual channel kit just to have 8 gb of ram 2x2gb each set. Well i did have 8gb but i notice that my transfer rate were slower than before. So i ended up selling the other set and just stick with 4gb so sad..

So i really wanted to make sure this is the memory model GSKILL 12GB (3x4GB) Ripjaws DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 (F3-12800CL9T-8GBRL)

Also i would like to ask if i would have an advantage on speed if i use 2 sets of Corsair Dominator-GT DHX 12GB DDR3 1866mhz (CMT12GX3M6A1866C9) since ripjaws is cheaper but only have 1600mhz while dominator is 1866 and my mobo supports it, is it a good idea to buy this expensive memory. I dont usually play games but if will dramatically speed up the rendering process id go with it but if there is not much difference well i'd go with ripjaws.

Thanks a lot

The difference between the speeds will be negligible.

Just be certain you have the proper version of Windows 7 to support that much ram:

* Starter: 8GB
* Home Basic: 8GB
* Home Premium: 16GB
* Professional: 192GB
* Enterprise: 192GB
* Ultimate: 192GB

thanks nitro im using win7 professional.. what do you actually mean by negligible? can you be more specific?

24gb (6x4gb) will work in triple channel but please realize that this will be very stressful on the integrated memory controller (IMC) of the i7 9x0 chip.

The maximum speed you can hope for with that many sticks of ram is 1600mhz. Even then if the highest speed you can stabilize is 1333mhz I wouldn't be dissapointed.

You will more than likely have to boost the QPI/DramV significantly to get the ram speed up and stable.

@ChickenInferno so what do you suggest? should i go to 2 set of 3x4gb or just 1 set of 3x4gb for a total of 12gb? would that be enough or can i have its maximum speed?

I think you will find the 24gb of ram to be excessive for what you're trying to accomplish. As the others have said, you will likely have problems running it at the advertised stable OC speed without a lot of fine-tuning and research.

My personal recommendation is to try it with 1 kit, see how it runs, and then down the road if you need to upgrade, grab another kit.

You should be able to run the ram at 1333mhz or 1600mhz, but I wanted you to know that this won't be a simple plug it in and it works. You will need to adjust QPI/DramV in order to get it stable. I highly agree with aesthetics though; you should try a set of 3x4gb and see if that is enough ram for your purposes. If you truly do need 24gb of ram, then the actual speed won't be as important as the sheer volume of the ram. I wouldn't worry about 1333mhz vs. 1600mhz at 24gb.
