Hey all, new member here, got a quick question for you guys as everyone here seems quite knowledgeable. I, along with many others have been having ram detection issues on the x58 boards, now before we go into all that troubleshooting i can guarantee its not the board or ram, i've done all the pet tricks, re-seating cpu ect. the issue i'm having is that with two 4x3gb ocz kits, exactly the same and everything, the bios would only pick up 8gb originally (with all six dimm's in). the kits alone both pick up at 12gb. after bios update it now detects 16gb. went through all the steps, set all the timings voltages ect everything manually and everywhere in between during troubleshooting and the only way i've been able to get it to pick up all 24gb is to drop the dram freq from 1333 to 1066. so here is my real question, when i did this drop i also changed the timings from 9-9-9-24 (which the sticks are rated for) to 7-7-7-21, this is where my knowledge has a bit of a lapse, does this decrease in timings make up for or cancel out the lower dram freq? will this in all honesty really effect me, main use of the rig is gaming and VM's. thanks for your time knowledge.
