GPU only block?

If you get a gpu only block for a video card...don't you have to cool the voltage regulator with a fan then? What would be the advantage of a GPU only block vs a full cover block?

GPU only block, you're just cooling the GPU. You'd have to use heatsinks on the Memory and VRM's.

With a full cover block, you're cooling everything. No need for heatsinks on the Memory and VRM's.

Would the memory and VRM's need an actual fan? or just a passive heatsink?

They could survive with incidental air flow from the fans intaking into your case. That would do it, but if you're really paranoid, then have a fan some where pointing at it.

I doubt you will be able to OC as high with a GPU only block vs a full cover clock.

Full-coverage pros are single-slot, aesthetically pleasing, and cools everything.

However, they cost $100+ each and can only be used for specific cards. Being the case, their resale value is quite poor after a year.

GPU-only pros they provide better core cooling, reusable, and are cheaper ($50 block and $20-30 for VRM/RAM heatsinks). A Swiftech MCW60 from 5 years ago fits today's card.

However, GPU-only blocks require two slots.

So would I see a higher or lower overclockability out of a gpu only block?

well for core, the gpu only is better but it's not the heat with stock voltages that you need to worry about

If you have a GPU-only block, you would also have heatsink(s) on the VRMs. If you think they are getting too hot.... direct more air on them.
