i7 2600k overclocking - Page 2

spoke too soon I guess... was trying to run prime95 and i am getting hardware failure BSOD's. I guess I need to tweak the voltage some more? I started at 1.350 and increasing in .05 increments... at 1.375, another BSOD. Guess I should keep going higher? Thought it might be possible a ram issue but ran memtest86+ and after 10 passes, no errors so... maybe I am asking too much of this processor. I'll try 4.6 and test for stability later.

You don't NEED to use offsets. People just use it to get a 1600 mhz downclock with low voltage while idle. Not really important to even care about, unless you're running over 1.45v.

Anyway, what is your LLC set to? If it's set to Very high or Ultra high, then just raise the vcore to 1.4v. It's not going to blow it up.
That should get you where you want to go.

LLC is set to ultra high... I guess I've just seen others get that clock speed with lower voltages so that's why I've been reluctant to hit 1.4v I do notice that that prime95 will run longer when I am increasing the voltages, I guess I am just trying to find that sweet spot... but again I've seen people @ 4.8ghz with 1.35v

we have the same mobo so you'd have the same options but remember I am currently in BSOD state and I wouldn't recommend following my settings, this was in response to an above post =]

Try disabling PLL overvoltage. Only reason I've needed to enable it was to boot past a certain multiplier. 52x-56x in my case. I could do up to 51x with it disabled.

Then try 4.8GHz at 1.4V. If it works, try to find the lowest voltage you can run 4.8GHz stable at.

If it doesn't, try to find the highest multiplier you can run stable with 1.4V. Once you find the multiplier, then find the lowest voltage you can run that multiplier stable at.

Not all chips are created equal unfortunately. For every chip out there that can do 4.8GHz at 1.35V, there's probably a chip out there that can only do 4.4Ghz at 1.35V.

Every chip is different man , for 4.8 this guide even recommends 1.415 or 1.425
Its simple if you dont feel comfortable doing it then don't. But get the idea of other peoples chips and their voltages outside of your mind, or you will make it even harder on yourself.
