Should i upgrade my cpu or my graphics card? - Page 2

to get started, go with a new gpu. Then when you got the cash, pick up a used quad core if you can.

Yes your cpu will bottleneck it, but it will still be a vast improvement.

Check out toms hardware best gpu for the money article

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...6990,2879.html

The 5770 is pretty weak, id get a gtx 460 768mb at least. Check out kijiji and craigslist too, can find some great deals on parts if you're on a budget.

Depending on what OC your CPU has, a 560 might be fine. Is your CPU OC'd at all?

If your going to spend around $250 on a GPU, you could get a used 65NM Quad, like a Q6600 and still have $100-150 left for a GPU. If you bargain shop, you could do very well here. . A Q6600 and a GTX260 or so would be a very nice upgrade for the price.

I plan to overclock it, to about 3.2GHz, i don't want to risk doing any damage being a novice.

I want to buy a Q6600 or a Q6700, but i cannot find them anywhere, they seem to be impossible to find.

well coming from the 5770, my 460 was more powerful than it but then i ran 1920x1200 resolutions.

560 should be fine if you can oc your cpu........my E6600 @ 3.6 can sort of keep up with a GTX480......sort of.....but still.....gpu upgrade is more important.....having a slow cpu/fast gpu will provide better gains than fast cpu/slow gpu......if you can wait, i'll provide you with some benchies of an E6600 at different speeds with various graphics cards when i get off work later

I don't need to go far as a 480, and i don't need an extra space heater either, i think a 560 will serfice, i'm running stock, cooler too, but i plan to buy a gelid tranquillo, i've nothing but praise for it, and overclock.

Any tips on overclocking this particular cpu, i've never overclocked anything myself before, i know the ins and outs, but i've just never had hands on experience.

I'm also still running on a 1280x1024 on my monitor, the monitor being pretty old, but my brother-in-law is giving me his 22" one. it'll run high resolutions easily.
