Phenom ll x4 955 overclocking

post #1 of 17
Thread Starter
Hey guys, I recently upgraded my cpu to the x4 965 (NOT THE 955)black edition and i wanted to overclock this. i havent had much exp. in this department before but am doing a bunch of research on it. I wanted to know if anyone here knew the average stabality on that processer... as you can see my specs for my comp down below...

I have it at a 23x right now and didnt notice much of a difference... its still stable but maybe i am suppose to adjust something else? all i changed was the multiplyer. any help would be great. thanks again!

Run a stress test like Intel burn test to check the stability. And just keep raising the multi until it starts crashing in the stability test. I would recommend at least 5 runs of it to make sure. Then you can raise the voltage one increment at a time to go even higher.

well mine was only a x2 550BE (3.1ghz) and look at it go now lol.
I'm not too clued up on overclocking myself although I am pretty pleased with mine.
Don't do a massive jump just change the multiplier in Bios so it sets it at a sensible speed.
I would recommend getting a decent cooler though, and keep an eye on temps if you get a good overclock. (get easytune6 from gigabyte webby)

Continually monitor your CPU temperature and keep it below 60 Celsius.

Okay, ill give that a shot. I am just shocked i can raise the multiplyer that high and not really notice much. As far as the voltage should i adjust that after i find a stable muliplyer?

23x200=4.6Ghz?

What is your voltage and how do you have such a good overclocking 955 lol ON STOCK XD

Yes, the stock fan/heatsink they gave me is tiny. I been looking around for some good fan/heatsinks just not sure yet on what i am going to go with.

You have to post screenshots of your CPUz
x23 multi is epically high!
These chips normally do 4Ghz with Bclock (the 200mhz) and multi being tweaked, you seem to have gotten 4.6Ghz (very high btw) with a simple multi-boost XD

You might have a golden chip mate
