i7 950 Life cyckle?

Thread Starter
The CPU is probs six months ago and has been running 4.2 w/ 1.3v, so how much time would I have left if I ran these 24/7: 4.5 1.424v 1.48vtt, temps are at 81c on vantage

81c is too high, and you also have to consider it's not even summer yet so those temps will rise anywhere from 5-10 degrees.

I'm not really sure what 24/7 voltage is on an i7 950, but I;d say 1.424v is OKAY... As long as you find a way to drop your temperatures. Because I personally wouldn't let my chip get above 75c during a stress test.

4.5GHz on air phew!

Smells like toasted silicon in the morning.

How long it will last depends on the chip really, but...

According to Swiftech, a 10oC drop in temps can double the life of a CPU, I hope for your chip's take the reverse isn't true

81C for Vantage is just WAY too high if you're at that vcore.
If this were prime95, then it's not a problem, since you'd never reach those temps in anything except a deep number crunching program (like a multithreaded chess engine, for instance).

Now that being said, 81C by itself isn't too high, because the core temps are not the Tcase. The Tcase is the temperature of the integrated head spreader as measured (usually by the motherboard). Core temps are always going to be higher than Tcase. But when you increase the vcore, having temps that high get more dangerous than usual.

If you were at 1.25v, then 81C in realtemp/coretemp is perfectly fine and healthy, and completely within specs. A lot of people confuse tcase and think tcase=coretemps, when it's not.

81*C for Vantage is way too high. You should not see above ~69-72*C in everyday use, otherwise, your chip will only last a few months tops.

First and formost forget about temps, Intel Data Sheets list Absolute Maximum for the VTT and IMC voltage at 1.35v, so you running 1.48v VTT is pretty scary...

How long??

Hard to say, 6 months, 1 year, 1 month....

Keep volts at or lower:
1.50v CPU Vcore
1.35v VTT
1.35v QPI/IMC

Keep temps below 80c Prime95 & 85c IBT load, which should relate to around 60 - 65c load gaming and encoding.... If you fold, forget it all bets are off...

pshh...you guys have obviously not experienced the beefiness of these bloomfield chips...

1.45v vcore and 1.48v VTT will be fine for maybe a year, might start slowly degrading over that time though, and after a year you will probably need to fall back to 4.2. BUT the chip certainly will not flat out die.
