HDD or SSD --> newer SSD

Thread Starter
So if I want to change my starting OS bootup drive, from say an HDD or an SSD to a better SSD (such as Vertex 3 when it comes out =P) then what is the recommended method of doing so?
A way that is not too complicated please =)
and free would be nice =p

I would use Driveimage XML you can copy the binary image directly to ur SSD... as long as you keep all the other hardware the same :-)

Meh, I'd just install Windows fresh onto the SSD. However, I do recommend disconnecting other hard drives (and other SSDs if you end up with more than 1) so that the Windows installer doesn't place a boot sector on one of them.

That way you can use the BIOS to switch between drives just in case you need to open a program or something to see how you have it set up.

I would just get a cloning software such as clonezilla. Clone the old boot drive onto the new drive. Then swap out the drives. Easy as it gets. I think clonezilla costs money but it has a 30 day free trial so you could probably use it for free. If not there might be other free cloning software.

I thought clonezilla was open source? I just used Acronis when I switched (X25-V 40GB -> X25-M 120GB) since it came free with my SSD. Very painless process.
